This is my first post , I have made a couple of short movies in imovie but that was a few years ago .. I now have a canon 60D , I have shot some video and put it into iphoto , it looks good but when I put it into imovie the video quality is not nearly as good ..
Most of my experience is with audio so I consider myself a newbie concerning the video but am very motivated to learn and upgrade equipment if needed ....
I have a 27" imac OS 10.6.8
I would appreciate all advise ..
Thanks .. Camboy

Thanks , baldrick ... I think FCP would be a big jump for me as I am pretty new to all this .. I like to learn with the hands on approach through the steps .. So when I load my DSLR video from iphoto into imovie I should expect the video quality to be compromised ? If I can learn to understand why all this is happening I will be able to connect the dots ....
Thanks

Why this is happening: Apple has declared that all footage must be converted to ProRes before editing. In current versions of iMovie and FCPX there's not a damned thing you can do about it except use a high enough bitrate to not lose picture quality. It's actually a fairly decent workflow, what irks me is the lack of choice in the matter.
422LT, 422, or 422HQ in ascending order of quality is probably the way you want to go.
And I agree with Baldrick, probably time to step up to FCPX.
