AnyDVD and CDroms and Region 2 DVD

I've had AnyDVD (Free updates until: Forever) for quite a few years. Never had DVD's other than region 1.
There are a few DVD's I want to purchase that are region 2 (from UK) documentry type stuff from PBS. PBS site (dot.org usa) doesnt sell them. Amazon does.

My question is: With AnyDVD, does the cd/dvd rom 'see' the disk as region 2 & do the thing with 'changing region you can change it 5 times <- however its worded- then its locked into that last region'"

Or, is it region free as far as the cd/dvdrom - computer sees it?

Does this make sense?

As long as AnyDVD is open first, it should not matter what region the disc is.
NOW you have to figure out how to play PAL video format material on your American TV.

If it works like DVDFab, the drive sends Region 2 but the player software sees it as Region Free. No alteration to change numbers takes place.

Playback to a PC will not worry a NTSC tv

Of course, we Europeans are lucky in that respect since our PAL tvs can play NTSC disks if the player supports the region.

Rip to iso, have Argosy, WD 303D, & Dune media players, hopefully, one of em will play it. Otherwise, I'll have to buy a region free dvd player.

^^ You still miss the point.

A region free player will still be playing a PAL (assumedly) disk. Your NTSC tv can not display that.

Just watch those dvds on your PC with vlc. No need to worry about region codes.

Depends on the player. A decent region free player will perform the conversion.

Don't confuse "multi-standards" player with "region-free". (unless your idea of a "decent region-free" player = multi-standards player, @KrispyKritter)
As DB83 said, unless you have "MS"-type, "RF"-type will still get you stuck if you live in NorthAmerica and you've got a PAL disc.

Remember the good old days of the simple N/P button on the remote. We were so young then. Now we don't need to pull our hair out trying to find a solution to the NTSC/PAL problem....our hair is now falling out on it's own.
