We are going to have a film making competition in my school and I was tasked with the editing. Right now I have a little bit of work done in PowerDirector 11 but I want something that can make it look even better. Right now I have no idea what I could use because PowerDirector was the software that a guy we paid used to make our full-length movie the year before. Basically, I'm using what I learned from him. I've tried using Vegas and Premiere Pro but as much as they get the more complex things done right, I find them a little too inconvenient to do simple things like change a certain part of a clip's volume, something that PowerDirector made incredibly easy.

I have a fairly weaker build with a Pentium G2030 and 4GB of RAM with only a 7200rpm HDD. Thank you so much for responding!

Try Corel VideoStudio Pro X8 Ultimate. Stable, short learning curve and a good forum for help: http://forum.corel.com/EN/viewforum.php?f=1

For nice video quality and editing Vegas, of course. Learn curve: 3.5

For easy editing but inferior video quality, Power Director. Learn curve: 1.0

I gave Vegas another go. It started out just fine but as soon as I started to add more clips (making a 20 minute short here) it started to bog down and eventually crash. I must admit that it was a lot more intuitive than I remembered.

It takes some time for Vegas to ingest the files. Just go little by little. It has to index and create thumbnails, and stuff like that. Work in chunks.
