Does anyone tried SVCDs with 5.1 SOUND?
I have a standalone player MUSTEV V560 with WINBOND chipset and I tried one homemade SVCD with 5.1 sound AND IT WORKED!
I used:
- a 720x576 2.8 Mbit MPEG-2 VIDEO TRACK
- 5.1 MPEG-2? 384 kbit AUDIO TRACK that I download from the net.
I MUX THE 2 TRACKS to a SVCD MPEG (but with 720x576 resolution and 5.1 sound)
I tried and it worked with ALL CHANNELS separated like an AC3 track! 8)
I couldnīt discover if THAT AUDIO TRACK is MP2 (MPEG-1 Layer 2) or real MPEG-2!![]()
BUT my question is...HOW CAN I MAKE A 5.1 MPEG2 AUDIO TRACK?!![]()
I know MPEG2 5.1 IS a PHILIPS standard. THE ONLY SOFTWARE I FOUND IS FOR LINUX! DOES anyone knows about any software FOR WINDOWS that CONVERT AC3 / 6 WAVs -> MPEG-2?
PS: I tried SVCD + AC3 track but it doesnīt work -> no audio![]()

I just found some litterature about it.
Itīs MPEG-2 5.1 audio
SVCD can handle MPEG-2 Video and Audio (compliance is MPEG-2 V. and MPEG-1 layer 2 A.) -
I was trying to do the same thing last week. After reading up on the subject of 5.1 sound with SVCD I discovered it is not possible( at least SVCD compliant). The way to go seems to be MiniDVD that way you can retain the AC3.
You say you have a SVCD with 5.1 sound, if true I would like to know how this was done? -
yeah totally, is there a way to convert AC3 directly to a 5.1 MP2??

Yes it is possible to make a 5.1 multichannel mpeg audio file and have it comply with the svcd standard, actually you can have up to 7.1 channels.
mickboss your findings are correct, however. The only programs which can author a svcd compliant multichannel mpeg audio stream can only be used in linux.
In addition to having a multichannel mpeg audio reciever it has always been my understanding that Philips was the only company to ever support the format, so basically it will only work if you have a Philips dvd player. Even if your reciever is set to multichannel mpeg audio decoding, without a philips dvd player you will just get prologic. My guess is that what you thought was 5.1 channels was actually just prologic. -
so im guessing there isnt a way to have ac3 sound on a svcd either?

I've found how to do mpeg2 multichannel audio track for svcd under windows.
I used besweet and pub_enc.exe, the problem now is to have a dvd player that bypass directly de mpeg2 audio data digitally to my ampli/decoder mpeg2 multichannel.
Now with mustek v300, it decode it to dolby prologic (mpeg2 multichannel is retrocompatible to prologic)and then re-encode to pcm to have digital transmission to the decoder.
The mustek v300 has ess chip.
