  1. This may seem like a stupid question but does converting an interlaced video to 50fps give a smoother framerate? An interlaced video has 25 frames per second. I convert it to 50fps. I can see in a video editor that is has 50 unique frames (no duplicated frames). So does this mean the video will have a smoother framerate than the 25fps original or will it just look as smooth as the original did?

  2. Each frame of the 25 fps interlaced source contains two half pictures (fields). When properly displayed you see those two half picture separately and sequentially at 50 fields per second -- essentially a real time bob deinterlace. So no, deinterlacing yourself to 50 fps does not make the video smoother. If your player doesn't bob then doing so yourself will give smoother playback.
