Hello
I really got a issue with out Sony EX-3 camcorders.
The thing is : Sometimes i record for 1 hour. The files on my EX-3 sometimes splits the 1 hour file up im smaller files, and sometimes its just one big file.
Does anyone figure out whats happening?
I dont know what went wrong.
Best regards
Theis

Nothing is wrong.
The files are limited in size for a number of sensible reasons. Sony (and others) package the actual media files in a folder structure that contains metadata that, among other things, tells the spanned clips how to join seamlessly. Premiere Pro, Vegas Pro, Avid, Edius or even the TMPGenc products can handle the material properly. Sony Cataylst Browse (free) can as well. (One user has had good luck joining spanned clips in VideReDo) Transferring directly from the camera via USB should work too.
Problems occur when folks try to bring in the individual mts files while ignoring the data structure. -
Thank you for your support
The thing is, that the SAME camera manage to make one large file the one day, and the next day it splits a equale file up in smaller files.
I import in FinalCut X -
Mentioning FCPX is important. With Apple there are extra hoops to jump through.

Just a quick, wild guess, but I'd say it is based on:
1. Structure's max filesize vs. bitrate chosen
or
2. Clip splitting based-on-scene/timecode discontinuity settings
and/or
3. Inconsistent (goofy) user adjustments
