  1. I am trying to get a panasonic blu ray player DMP-BDT105 to play AVC MP4 video files. But I must be doing something wrong as every time I have tried to get it to play a burned DVD it says incompatible disc.

I read that it had to be UDF 2.5 for burning. But that's all I know. I must have missed something else because I have wasted 2 DVD's already. I does say online that it plays both AVI and MP4 (AVI worked) But I do not understand what might be the issues with MP4 files.

I am using Megui to make the MP4 videeo file High Profile level 3.1..... Some other setting seem to include:
    program --level 3.1 --crf 20.0 --deblock 1:1 --b-adapt 2 --vbv-bufsize 17500 --vbv-maxrate 17500 --me umh --subme 9 --trellis 2

Can anyone help me here? I'd really appreciate it thank you. As I can not afford to keep wasting DVD's

Have you tried play from USB or network?

What frame size/resolution are you using? Maybe problem with HD resolutions.

And try convert with handbrake or vidcoder and use the Normal or Universal Preset.

  3. I fond this additional information but not sure what it all means exactly.

Does it mean I have to use the AVCHD profile in MeGUI?
    DVD-R or DVD+R?
I'm also not sure about the ISO9660 for burning

    AVCHD
    File format
AVCHD format (V1.0) used on High
    Definition Video Camera
    (Panasonic and some others)
    Codec
    MPEG-4 AVC/H.264

Discs must conform to UDF 2.5

With certain recording states and folder structures, the play order may
differ or playback may not be possible.

    CD-R, CD-RW : ISO9660 level 1 or 2 (except for extended formats),
    Joliet
This unit is compatible with multi-session.
This unit is not compatible with packet writing.

    DVD-R, DVD-R DL (except for AVCHD) : ISO9660 level 1 or 2 (except
for extended formats), Joliet, UDF bridge (UDF 1.02/ISO9660)
This unit is not compatible with multi-session.

  4. I know the in a post above handbrake was suggested but I would prefer to stick with MeGUI if possible as that is what I'm used to. But will switch if I must.

I found additional info on the player which I posted above. The player isn't mine but belongs to a relative. It is the only thing he has in his house the will play mp4, as he doesn't own a computer or anything like that.

The videos is old wedding stuff burned to DVD in DVD format. Our thinking was that we could squash the 2 separate wedding DVDs on to 1 DVD if we converted to mp4. Which I did with MeGUI. It plays fine on all I have. My computer, Xbox, and tablet. As is the same with other relatives who wanted a copy. He is the exception. But this is the first time I've ever needed to make an mp4 work on an actual blu ray/DVD player and am stuck on what to do.

The 2 time I have tried the first time it just wouldn't play. The second time it came up with an error message that said incompatible format. The only change I made the second time was make the burn conform to UDF 2.5 as that part I knew of. that I read in the manual. The other stuff am not clear on.

I'm using ImgBurn to burn the DVDs.

I had thought of using a USB drive till we get it right, but the manual says no to AVC being on USB if I'm reading it right which I don't get either.

So can anyone help? Anyone out there burned for that player and it worked?

    Thanks for your time.

I would make a standard AVCHD DVD because almost all Blu-Ray players will be able to play it back. You would basically encode the video as you normally would for MP4 / MKV and if possible it's probably best to use AC-3 for the audio (which, since the source is DVD, it probably is already). So encode to a MKV with x264 video and AC-3 audio. Then open up the MKV with tsMuxeR and select AVCHD output. It will remux the MKV to AVCHD within a few minutes (no re-encoding nor transcoding takes place). When you import this into ImgBurn it knows that you are trying to burn an AVCHD / BD and sets everything for you automatically (no need to worry about UDF vs ISO9660 etc.).
