Greetings ....
Within the past week I was the recipient of some blank TDK Plus-R DVD's (DVD+R) from an estate sale and giveaway.
I have used DVD-R's (mainly Taiyo Yuden and Verbatim) a-plenty but haven't used the DVD+R format before. One of the first things I found out about Plus-R's is that to use them for recording movies and TV programs on a DVD recorder the discs should be first formatted. Is that indeed necessary? Also, do they need to be formatted for use as Data Disks ?
I'd appreciate any reasonable answer on the formatting question, as well as basic pros and cons in any other DVD+R matters.

There are few cons to DVD+R media now. Years ago some DVD players could not read DVD+R and some DVD recorders could not record to them, but were fine with DVD-R. Machines made after 2007 should be fine with DVD+R.
On the other hand, TDK DVD media made after around 2006 is not great quality. I used TDK a lot when I bought my first DVD burner, but after they outsourced production in 2006, I had a lot of bad burns.Last edited by usually_quiet; 13th Aug 2015 at 20:54.

Greetings ...
Thanks Usually_Quiet -- I won't use them for long-term purposes then. I believe Taiyo Yuden's Plus-R's are the best regarded such discs as of now. Whose Plus-R's besides T.Y. 's would you recommended ??THE Ultimate TV Tuner Device - Picks up every broadcast-cable-satellite transmission since 1928! -
There hasn't been a difference between -R and +R in decades. You'll hear nothing but fanboy nonsense and flat out lies if this thread continues.

First blank dvd's I ever bought were Philips -R disks, ended up tossing them,. They took forever to finally be recognized by the dvdrom, & had burn errors, (liteon <-always liteon!). Got +R's after that & have always had good luck with them, many different brands, no less. Have always had bad luck with double-layer disks, many brands. On large size movies, 6-7+ gigs, rip movie only & split to 2 dvd-5 (+R!!) disks.
Yes, no, maybe, I don't know, Can you repeat the question? -

-r vs +r ... +r offers little in benefits in real world consumer use ... if in doubt of the condition of the player then stick with -r
Yes tdk used to be brilliant then it went south after outsourcing. -
DVD-R does have a slight edge on compatibility, even to this day.
But the quality of media matters more.
