When my wired router is on connected by Ethernet cable I can't access any websites using my usb internet stick. The usb internet will connect, but the web page on bottom says resolving host... & the page doesn't load up.

Should this be possible? It's the only internet I have & would like to maintain a home network.

    Thanks

    USB internet stick ?

do you mean a cellular internet data connection ?

why are you connected to router, if your using cell internet ? are networking other devices, can they use Wifi to connect to the PC

    unplug the router

    establish your cell internet

    now plug in your router

you may have to goto the control panel and set the ethernet port to Local Aera Network Only AKA LAN only no internet

your pc thinks the router is for internet, its blocking access on the cell stick

What is the USB adapter connected to? Your computer or the router?

    Yes cellular data networking
    The key word is *network*
You can't have multiple networks, without some kind of bridging
The laptop sees the LAN as a network, which it is
And it sees the USB modem as a NETWORK which it is..
Your gateway to the internet and millions of computers
The LAN has to be isolated by settings aka addressing , so the pc can use it only for device access
As a last resort you can maybe change the NAS over to USB connection
Or just not connect it when you want to be online
BUT You should be able to isolate it with the correct settings

  7. I assume you're talking about Usb/wifi (wireless)
Enable DHCP on your router, this should solve the issue

    No it's not Wi-Fi
It's a cellular modem, connects to Tele p home cell towers
Data only signal via cell tower

When he is connected to the router and plugs in the cell modem the internet never connects at the pc level
If the router aka nas network is not connected to the pc the cell modem internet works
Dchp might help, but it is not WiFi the internet does not go thru his router,no cable no fios , dsl

    Still guess work

Sounds like a clash in ip addressing between nas and usb telco device

Check telco device network settings and that of nas (the nas device needs to be changed)

This is also vista and nothing ever goes well, sometimes it works and other times its a mess.
