  1. Hello all,

I have a bit of a problem that is really starting to make me mad. Previously, I was using a Roxio Game cap HD pro... and for the most part, it was crap. But it worked. I am also using a SCART/HDMI to HDMI converter for my Dreamcast and Xbox games, which on the Roxio worked perfectly.

However, that is not the case with the AVerMedia. I get NO signal at all when using the SCART converter. The converter has two modes... 720p/1080p and SCART/HDMI input.

It doesn't matter which mode I use, there is no signal output. SOMETIMES, I'll get a signal, but it jumps like the vertical hold need adjusting, then after that... nothing. No signal again.

Now, previously upon trying this SCART converter with the LGP using my phone and an MHL cable, I was greeted with an error saying my CRLs were out of date.. something to do with license and DRM and stuff. So I managed to supposedly update what I needed to by going to the Microsoft site and Updating my DRM licenses. Since then, THAT is when I've started getting a black screen.

I get no CRL error, though. When using the SCART converter, the LGP DOES get a signal, since there is no "No Signal" mesage, so there is something going through. The passthrough also works fine, as the video is showing on my TV.

Neither the SCART nor the HDMI inputs work. The convert also strips HDCP from encrypted signals, which is probably the reason why I got that CRL error the time.

Anyway, this is of vital importance I get this working. I have a huge unfinished Skies of Arcadia playthrough on YouTube (90+ parts) and I'll be dammed if I have to quit now because this stupid device won't work with a converter.

Anyway, any help would be greatly appreciated. And thanks as well!

  2. I admit, I don't understand many of the words you used in your post, like scart, etc. But I think you're on the right track wih that "no signal" scenario. Use that setup and this newest reccentral software that is compatible with hdcp streams and see if it works:

you will still need to use the old lgp lite drivers, which you can get by unzipping instead of running the old package and running the driver setup file only.

PureChaosX its a old error on Avermedia Cards.

To solve this, uninstall anything Avermedia related, reboot, download and install latest drivers (Driver:v3.7.x.37 ) only and use the RECentral shared by ezcapper.

Tip: Download Revo Uninstaller before uninstall Avermedia contents. Its delete all Avermedia file, register, folder on your system.

    Try and reply.

  4. Thanks for the replies.

I tried using the version of RECentral you provided, removed the current version, reinstalled and unfortunately that didn't help, the LGP still refuses to show any video or audio from the SCART converter.

On the plus side, I can use my PS3 and Android phone directly on the AverMedia, without the use of the SCART converter to strip the HDCP, so that's a good thing. But yeah, RECentral is the same otherwise... no output from the SCART adapter.

Also, if you're not from Europe, that would explain why you haven't heard of SCART, I believe it was a Europe onl thing

I got the exact same problems. I have the LGP lite and I'm trying to record my Dreamcast and Xbox with the Scart to HDMI converter. I can play the games on my tv, but when I'm in console recording mode I get a black screen and the files that are recorded are 9kb in size. I can record games on my PC so everything works except with older consoles using a converter. Really annoying problem, and if it does not work I'm not sure I can get my money back either :/. I have tried updating and doing all that shit but it does not work. I have a theory that there is HDCP involved https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/High-bandwidth_Digital_Content_Protection
"Additional issues arise when interactive media (i.e. video games) suffer from control latency due to the additional processing (encoding/decoding) required. Various everyday usage situation, such as live streaming or capture of game play, are also adversely affected.[28]"

  6. That's exactly the same as my situation... trying to record Dreamcast and original Xbox via a SCART to HDMI converter. Just a black screen and 9Kb files. And my theory was also HDCP related.

However, I have since discovered that may not be the case. I have recently downloaded a patched version of the RECentral that forces HDCP to be disabled, therefore allowing you to use devices such as the PS3 directly through the LGP rather than a splitter/converter.

And it did indeed remove HDCP from my PS3 and my Android phone, but not the SCART converter. I'm lead to believe it's a problem with the LGP itself, something relating to incompatibility. I'm lucky to have an Xbox One in which I am actually using it's HDMI input to record the Dreamcast.

Until AVerMedia resolves compatibility issues between the LGP and various converters, there's nothing we can really do.

If you'd like to work with the patched version, it's in this link:

Thanks I'm going to try that! I also mailed customer service at Avermedia regarding this issue. I was wondering if the normal LGP (not lite) because it has a composite cable female that goes into the AV in port. If that works then I have spend more money on the LGP lite + converter than the standard LGP and it does not work lol.

  8. I think both the normal LGP and the LGP lite are the same, except for a few connection, so they'll both be the same when it comes to compatibility with converters. If anything, a SCART to Component (not HDMI) would probably work, but they're hard to find and usually quite expensive.

And hopefully AVerMedia will repply to you, and they'll have SOME explanation as to why you cannot use converter boxes with the LGP.

I got the reply from Avermedia, I wished they would have posted this info on their webpage before I bought it. It's like "you bought it and now go and **** yourself" I was watching a review of the normal LGP and you are supposed to be able to record retro consoles with it's proprietary port in standard format. I'm going to try refund it and get the normal one instead, probably won't work since it's not broken. I will mention that I feel tricked n shit. I will keep you updated! Here is the reply:

    Thank you for choosing AVerMedia.

    Hi William,

We would like to let you know that Live Gamer Portable wasn't test verified
    with converters.
Using converters means that the original signal is not HDMI, the source content
is converted from different signal type.
Live Gamer Portable however supports pure HDMI and component signals
    via direct cable connection.
From above explained reason we can't guarantee that your intended scenario will
work nor can provide technical assistance to address your issue.

    Thank you for your understanding!
    Best regards
    Avermedia Support

  10. Well that sucks. And it's a bit strange as well. Previously, before the LGP, I had a Roxio Game cap HD Pro... a cheap piece of crap but it did what I needed it do, and that crappy Roxio worked flawlessly with the SCART converter.

I wonder why the more expensive, and much newer LGP, doesn't support converter boxes? Also annoying they didn't mention that on their site, which would have been helpful.

As for recording retro consoles. I was under the impression it COULDN'T do that. Even with the Component converter you couldn't hook up an old console with Composite (red, white, yellow) cables.

I went to have a refund but it was not possible. I wonder what the issue lies, is it the hardware or the software or both? If it is a software problem then there is a chance that people could patch it. I'm going to try asking Avermedia Support if they atleast can tell if the problem is hardware or software related.
