Hi peeps, ok i am in a dilema, i went to a car show last weekend to shoot some video, and take photos, and i have now put together a 15 minute Slideshow, and a 25 minute video.
I have the 2 video files already completed without audio tracks, but i do not have any suitable songs to create a sound track for both.
The car show was a blend of new and very old, and i would like to have some car related songs, preferably from the 50's and 60's if possible.
Can someone please offer me some suggestion, as this is my first car show video that i am creating with a music based sound track, usually i shoot car shows while recording a running commentary as i shoot, but this show was very poorly set up, and there was all sorts of sounds bellowing around, so i am not able to use my commentary.
This will also be my first photo slideshow, as i usually don't do photography.
Any suggestions very much appreciated.
Cheers

This could be a bit cliché nowadays (Tarantino may have ruined it for you
) but how about some 60´s style surf? It conveys a certain nostalgia feel along with powerful fast guitar riffs, saxs and drums that, to me, could match nicely your style of videos(at least from what you have stated here)..also the music comes from a region big on cars and customizing

Look into the 'Beach Boys' and 'Jan and Dean' music. They did a fair number of car songs in the sixties, mostly southern California surfing style music.
Probably some instrumental music from that era would help also, but I can't come up with anything specific at the moment. -
Hi, yes i am trolling thru Youtube looking at a bunch of 50's and 60's rock sets, including these, just to get some inspiration.

The car show had a big 50's style dance hall set up at one end with the black and white checker floor, and a big juke box pumping out all the oldies, and many people were there dressed in the period gear dancing away.
Will keep looking.Last edited by glenpinn; 29th Jul 2015 at 10:29.

I remember "Fun Fun Fun", "Little Deuce Coupe", "I Get Around", and "The Little Old Lady From Pasadena".

are you looking for royalty free music? or is this just for your enjoyment and you can use copyright music?

It seems every time I do a car slideshow, I always go for the classic "I'm in love with my car" by Queen. It usually fit's like a glove.
Got my retirement plans all set. Looks like I only have to work another 5 years after I die........ -
yes, these are the same ones suggested in a website i found last night.
I need at least 7 to 8 songs to fill the 25 minute video, and about 5 to fill the slideshow.
Hi, i will use whatever music i can get without infringing any copyright laws, so this is my other issue with obtaining music.
Heres the deal, we open up thousands of youtube videos, and many of the contain added on sound tracks, many will do as i do and add the song titles and artist in the introduction notes for the video, as well as state that they do not own the music, and simply acknowledge those artists, and they seem to get away with it.
Now, in the past, because i shoot travel videos, weddings, kids parties, and other events i can rustle up, there is often music being played, so that gets included in my video because i retain the audio in my videos.
as soon as i upload that video, i get smacked by Youtube with a copyright warning and those songs will be listed in the warning message.
I had a big shit fight with Youtube over this, citing that with many of my videos, i have no control over that music because it is recorded in my video, so i cannot remove it, yet they still claim that i am breaching some copyright law.
I just hit the option to accept the copyright stuff and the videos are posted.
My friend does car shows all the time, and he never has any issues with any music he adds to his slideshows.
I personally think the artist should be thrilled that people want to use their music, and i dare say most artists couldnt care about it.
I guess i just take pop luck, or contact the record companies to get their permission.

The Ventures (a group from the 1960s) had some killer instrumental stuff that might work. Some of their hits include "Walk, Don't Run" and the them from the Hawaii 5-0 TV series.

Thanks a lot, your a genius, i just found this video (and others) in youtube, and i downloaded the full sound track, and i will use parts of this album for my 2 videos.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bplkIEhGCfI
I also downloaded other tracks from them as well, just for future use.
Now, how would i go about getting permission to use parts of this sound track ?
Personally i hate having to put a sound track to a video, because i like people to to hear the sounds going on around me, and because i usually do a running commentary from behind the camera as well, unfortunately i cant keep the video audio track for this particular video because it was bad.
So this will be a first for me adding a music track to video, slideshows no problem, they need music for sure.

Here's a link to a Smartsound album of music that contains a track called Bikini Beach:

I remembered a couple of other songs from the same era: "Hot Rod Lincoln" and "409".

Ok guys, i won't quote any comments, but thanks for all the help and links, i need to get these car show videos out there, so i am just going thru the Ventura album and grabbing a chain of 7 or 8 songs from that, which i can fit to the video to match, same for the 15 minute slideshow.
I will use Audacity to fine tune the track, and then do my final outputs.
I will be keeping as much of the music you guys suggested in a folder for later on.
Also, i will look into the link to Smartsound as well.
Cheers -
The industry doesn't want you to use their songs even for personal use.
I stopped doing it and started looping just the 4 bars they allow for personal/commercial production.
This is why you rarely hear a complete song in the movies/docu/etc.
I took a Philosophy of Film class in college. Some guy used Queen's "I'm in love with my car" to his 16mm shoot.
It was hand-held without stabilization, color was off, out of focus, and basically horrible - so horrible that I remember it. -
They don't care about personal use. But their definition of "personal use" is different than what most people use. Using a video sharing site like Youtube isn't personal use, it's an "exhibition" - so you need to pay the fees in their perspective
They actually WANT you to use the songs for commercial production and to pay the royalty fees. That's how they make more money.
You usually don't hear a complete song, because it doesn't fit the edit -
Yes...I meant to say they don't want you to use their music without a stiff fee.
Some guy was making a .org years ago where this was all circumvented making it easy for indy filmmakers.
I guess he wasn't successful... -
Ok here is what i was told to do, in my Video Manager in my Channel, beside each Video with music there is a copyright warning that says the music cannot be played in certain countries.
I click on the warning link, and i am told in there that all the songs i used are banned in just one country, so as long as they play in USA and Australia, which they do, then i am happy.
I then get told that if i am not monetizing my channel, and it is not used for commercial purposes, i just ignore the copywright warning and do nothing, thats how my friend does it, so its all good.
I got lucky with my music track, i managed to import the chosen Album into Audacity and find a bracket of continuous tracks that was about 1.5 minutes longer than my completed video was (without the title and credit applied) and in the end, after i chopped out all those horrible silent bits between each track and stitched them together, my music track was just 28 seconds longer, so i simply imported the video track into VRD and managed to squeeze out 20 seconds to shorten the video to within 8 seconds of the music, so i just chopped 8 seconds off the end with Audacity, then moved the marker back 5 seconds from the end and applied a fade out, making it seem like the last track actually finished at the end of that fade, and i doubt anyone would ever notice it in that car video.
