Try re-installing the codec after the converter is installed. Something at the back of my mind makes me think that has helped, when Edius is not installed.........

Just reinstalled again, followed by reboot ... same result, it starts and then gives error Codec cannot be used

  3. Weird.....I know that both the codecs and the converter were intended to be used with Edius, but I don't have Edius installed on this Win7 machine, and it works fine... I did have an old version of Edius Neo on my previous XP machine, and I'm wracking my brains to remember if I've ever had it installed on this machine? If I did, maybe the 'uninstall' left something behind?...

The only other thing that might be relevant are the settings. I can't remember all the default settings now, but I have the following ones set on the AVCHD converter Settings page (left click on the AVCHD2HQ.exe icon on the desk top )

Target Folder - press 'Select' box and choose 'Computer' to get Same as Source

    Output format: Select HQ AVI

    Press 'HQ set' box...

    Audio: LPCM 2 channel

Codec: select HQX --- Then press 'setting' box - select either Online (Fine) or online (Standard) - Press 'OK' box

(NOTE: I don't think HQ will work without Edius, only HQX .. and I think the install defaults to HQ. That might be the key factor)

    Size:no change
    Field order: progressive
    Press 'OK' box

    Input field order: Auto
    Input Aspect Ratio: auto
    AVCHD 3D: side by side
Resize Mode: lanczos 3 (Hi quality and sharp)
    Others: Confirm overwrite ticked

    Press 'OK' box

Those settings work here without Edius installed...

  5. Shame --- As I say, it works here fine??.....The only other thing I can think of is that I'm using Win7 32 bit - and I think you are on 64 bit. I can't see that should make any difference in this situation though?....

I've checked the settings instructions, and they are as I have it here. I can confirm the you do need to select HQX and not HQ.

There are one or two others here who have tried the HQX codec, but I'm not certain if they have tried the converter utility as well? It would be nice to know if it does work OK for other people.....
