I have an external hard drive that I keep all my media files in. I also have a WD TV Live that I stream my movies onto my TV. WD TV Live recently add the feature of viewing thumbnails. So looked around and decided to try MetaX. Trial version of course, which I downloaded and attempted on one movie. Worked like a charm. However, when I Opened my movies folder on a smart tv and on the WD TV Live, I was sad to see all the movies had the same thumbnail as the one I used MetaX as a trial. Ugh!
So ran through the usual cross checks. Tried deleting the meta data and thumbnail through MetaX to no avail.
Rebooted WD (before realizing the thumbnail debockle was on smart tv also), and of course it did nothing all movies have the same thumbnail.
Deleted the movie that I had used in the trial, again all the movies still had the same thumbnail.
Tried opening the file in program manager and deleting the meta data in windows, again no change to all movies.
Tried making a coping of the film in windows, again no change to my remaining movies.
So before I reformat and scrub clean my external drive, I created a separate "test" folder and copied a movie that I know was effected into the test folder. YES! The erroneous thumbnail was gone. So took it one step further and renamed the folder that contains all my movies and YES it worked!!! All the thumbnails mistakenly installed with MetaX were now gone!
I emailed MetaX and was told I would have to buy the complete software to remove the erroneously placed thumbnails. I actually liked the software but this has left me 1) doubtful as to the quality of the software 2) the inadequate customer service to resolve this or any future problems 3) a feeling that I was being scammed.
So obviously when I downloaded the free trial of MetaX it embedded a thread or what I prefer to call a "bug" on my system that changes all the thumbnail to the one used during the trial period. It attaches to any file that is in the same folder as that of the movie used in the trial. Yes I can hide the erroneous thumbnails from view by renaming the folder, but the bug is still in my external drive. Does anyone have any ideas short of wiping my external drive clean and reformatting it to remove this? I do not have programming experience, but software and hardware experience.
Help!

From experience, Dan Hinsley has a messiah complex and everything that goes wrong is always someone else's fault (whoever is convenient), but he's not a scam artist.
Is it possible he meant he wasn't going to help someone who hadn't paid? -
Hey ndjamena, I never said DH was a scam artist. He said "MetaX didn’t put thumbnails on every file, it will only tag 5 files, so I’m not sure how you got the thumbnails on all the files. But if you want to use MetaX to remove the thumbnails, or add new ones, yes you need to purchase." Which I said, I felt as though I was being scammed.
I didn't imagine the thumbnails and it occurred immediately after using MetaX. So obviously the software does have a way to affecting more than five files. The ironic thing is, I would have purchased the software had it not attached one thumbnails to ALL my files. -
...Um, a scam artist is one who scams...
And he said, "That's your problem. If you want it fixed you'll have to pay for it."
Did I miss something? -
Morning ndjamena,
Yes. I am strictly referencing how the exchange made me feel - my personal feelings. Not anyone's character or practices.
But it's all mute as I was able to resolve all.
Thanks!
