  1. I've recently learned how avisynth works and I have a video that I want to clean up and restore. I'm not 100% sure on what scripts to use for some of the aspects that need to be fixed, and needing a second opinion, wanted to know what type of scripts others would recommend.

    These are a few samples

    Welcome.

Your two mp4 samples look like re-encodes from VHS captures. You can play with color, levels, some of the noise, but the severe line timing errors and shimmer can't be repaired. Those problems can be "fixed" only by capturing with a better VCR and a line-level tbc. In any case, don't expect great results working from very low bitrate lossy re-encodes with bad compression artifacts. They've been deinterlaced and half of the data was thrown away, which doesn't help. Some of it looks like it was originally film source (telecined) and incorrectly dinterlaced. No fix for that.

The images have obvious problems, but what could be done with them depends on the condition of adjacent frames. Still images don't have adjacent frames.

  4. You're trying to clean up a video transfer of a workprint! Not only is the color timing (predictably) off to begin with, they've then gone and marked it up with grease pencils and sharpies! Don't expect miracles.

  5. Is this a joke? 432x304 MP4? I take it you didn't capture these yourself? And are you prepared to go over them several times, scene by scene, frame by frame?

432x304 = 1.42:1...and you can tell the mp4's were cropped earlier: borders are clean but the image inside has wiggle-itis.

I'd ask the same question. Seriously, these vids are wrecked. Whoever did it made the most common 100 mistakes and invented 100 more. Maybe they were intermediate working samples that were discarded? Are you sure you want to try this? Promise, the results won't be big improvements, and you're almost down to frame by frame, as manono pointed out.

Even if it won't be the best quality, if having to go frame-by-frame with it several times the only way to go, I would just work with the exclusive content on it which make up about 20 min of it. But if it's that bad, I have other videos you could maybe take a look at and let me know if their fixable or not.

https://www.sendspace.com/file/j1344p this is originally a 704x480 mkv changed to mp4 for uploading, with the full video having up to 10 min of exclusive scenes
