    Hi Team.

I am attempting to find a camcorder that shoots exceptional extreme low light w/o the need for me to lug around my own lighting.

I see time and time again the sony a7s pop up in most every one of my search results.

Problem I have with the a7s is:

    -no image stabilization

    -camera body not camcorder body

Can any of you point me in the right direction? I have seen the ax100 come up on occasion but would prefer less rolling shutter.

    My budget is $5k

    Thank you in advance.

P.S. I have heard rumors that the a7sii is coming this year. Rumor has it that it will attain image stabilization. Again, though it isn't meant to record video from an "ergonomic" perspective. Should I simply suck it up and wait for the a7sii?

Lastly, I do not need 4k video recording ability.

Low light means you need to supply your own light, whether you carry a $50 camcorder or an Arri Alexa, it's the rule of the game!

    Light makes photography.
Embrace light. Admire it. Love it.
    But above all, know light.
Know it for all you are worth, and you will know the key to photography.

It all depends on what your needs are, not everyone has a need for shooting video under perfect lighting conditions, even i make do with what i have in certain situations, and as a videographer shooting travel videos, i certainly cannot carry cumbersome and heavy lighting with me, however i do carry small battery powered LED camera lights that attach to my camera rigs or monopod if i need to light up my subjects.

This guy wants a camera that shoots the best possible low light video without the need for external lighting, and it appears that he is like me, and wants a decent onboard Image Stabilization system, and not have to rely on the crappy Stabilization offered on some of the lenses that fit these DSLR type cameras.

I have never heard of any camera, dedicated or DSLR type, that is capable of shooting Exceptional and/or Extreme low light video, but there are a few cameras out there that are capable of shooting what i call reasonable video in low light scenarios, but most of those would be the DSLR type cameras because they are the ones that use the bigger type sensors with the ability to shoot low light.

The A7S would probably be the best sub $5000 low light camera out there, but just like all DSLR style camera, ergonomically they just suck big time for shooting video unless they are mounted on a tripod, then you have no need for Stabilization at all, but even the lenses that you buy for these cameras that have Stabilization switches on them are still no good anyway.

You might like to tell us exactly what sort of video you mostly need to shoot.

My son has an A7S and some of his stock night time video is amazing, so i suggest that you stick with the A7S for now and shoot his video on a tripod, or at least some kind of good quality camera rig that will keep the camera as still as possible, then maybe wait for the A7S-2 to hit the market and see if it has the onboard IS system as they have been saying is going to happen.

this is one of my sons Video Showreels made up of segments taken from some of his projects shot at uni, all shot using a Blackmagic Pocket Cinema Camera, his Sony A7S, and Arriflex SRIII Super 16mm

As far as a dedicated video cam goes with decent low light, i dare say the DVX200 with its 4/3" sensor seems to do a pretty decent job of night video, and right now, that will be the camera i will be buying later this year for 4k/50p video and good low light video.

As for the AX100, i wouldn't waste my time.

    Cheers
