If any one can help with a code to change the region on an AWA W991 DVD Player, I would be most grateful. I have looked in quite a few places and have found the W992 but no code was available. I believe the W990 has a code but can't find it and am not sure if it would work on the W991.

    Any ideas appreciated.

    Thanks

Thanks Krispy Kritter. No help in that list. The unit might be too old.

I'll just have to invest in a new DVD Player! One that will play British DVD's.

    Thanks again. annieh

Age shouldn't matter. If it's not in that list, it likely doesn't have a code. As noted, most players cannot be "unlocked".

And I agree, if you want/need region 2 support, ensure you buy a player which supports it and don't rely on a code.

  6. Did a web search and hopefully found the correct DVD player you have.

I found AWA user manuals in pdf format at this link:
    http://ernie.awa.com.au/AWA-Telefix-AWA-Branded-Products/default.aspx?retain=true&pg=2

I looked at the pdf manual for the W991 and saw a little pop-up note displaying instructions to unlock:

    Open Tray
    Press Up Button
    Press Down Button
    Press Left Button
    Press Right Button
    Press "0"
    Close Tray

Can't guarantee this will work, since I don't have this player in Canada. You do this at your own risk.

If that doesn't work, check this forum for the AWA W990 region change. Read posts 3 and 5.

This is additional information from another post in regards to the previously mentioned post 5:

Here's the AWA W992 region change in the same forum:

    Thanks everyone for your guidance!

Unfortunately em-t-wallitt that little exercise for the W991 didn't work

I might just give the others a go tomorrow...nothing to loose really!

The TV has been very good but I think on its last legs...got the dreaded red spot up in the corner. I don't really want to give up the DVD/Video unit as we do have a number of videos but I'm sure it can be connected to a new TV and the new ones mostly seem to have Region Free DVD players built in.

I shall let you know how I go tomorrow. For now, it's very late. Good night all!

Back again and just letting you know that I tried the first hack for the W990...and it worked!!

Only trouble is, it's not a permanent fix and you have to go back and change it to a different Region if required.

But, that's OK. Mostly we watch only one region and it does only take a few seconds to change it over.

    Thank you! Thank you!

    It's made me very happy!
