@ hello_hello: if you don't fight for Pale Moon to be recognised as an independent, separate from Firefox browser you can turn 'Firefox compatibility mode' on:
http://www.ghacks.net/2014/10/25/this-is-what-pale-moons-firefox-compatibility-mode-se...-is-all-about/
(Pale Moon Commander is useful too: https://www.palemoon.org/commander.shtml ) -
Yeah, I was trying to point out the video in Firefox looks as it should for me.
Unless it changes with resolution, but I was looking at some 720p video two days ago and it was fine.
The version of Pale Moon I'm using is too old to need the Firefox compatibility mode. It's still permanently compatible, I'm assuming.....
Info from IP Lookup.
Browser: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows NT 5.1; rv:24.7) Gecko/20140725 Firefox/24.7 PaleMoon/24.7.0
I love updating browsers in exactly the same way I detest upgrading Windows.... lots of work and lots of problems to solve just to have everything work exactly as it did before..... hence still running XP and (I think) the last version of Pale Moon that'll run on it.
I did install Firefox a couple of months ago, opened it and had a little cry. It looks like I'll be close to starting from add-on scratch again to make it usable. The plan was to fire it up now and then when I had some time to kill, play with an add-on or two, leave it again till I had a bit of free time..... that was too months ago and so far I've installed uBlock and Classic Theme Restorer. I thought if I started with the latter and Firefox didn't look completely retarded it might be easier to find the motivation, but maybe I'll just wait till I build a new PC (anyone seen Skylake??) with a newer version of Windows that'll run a newer version of Pale Moon instead.Last edited by hello_hello; 21st Jul 2015 at 02:51. @ hello_hello: I understand your approach.
Anyway Moonchild announced the end of support for PM4XP (I suppose you use it) a few days ago: https://forum.palemoon.org/viewtopic.php?f=1&t=8813 and recommended using the Atom/WinXP build: https://www.palemoon.org/palemoon-atom.shtml -
People insisting,
on using deprecated software.
Eventually it catches up to them.
And then some will blame it on capitalism, the multi-nationals, the CIA and the Illuminati or a combination of those, but never, ever, on themselves.

Thanks for the info. I must be out if the loop. I thought XP support ended a while ago, and the last installer I used wasn't XP specific (just labelled "win32 installer"), but after hunting around a bit I found a fairly recent version. More recent than the one I'm using. Would this be the last Pale Moon for XP, aside from the Atom version you linked to?
PM4XP 25.5.0

In what way does it catch up? Not being able to upgrade or install new software? The very thing we've been discussing before you turned it into a statement of the obvious? Or are PC's self combusting due to Windows not being upgraded?
I can run the same version of Firefox as you, only apparently I don't have the same problem with video displaying incorrectly.
That's possibly the silliest generalisation you've managed yet. "Some people", in fact I'd confidently say almost "all people", are grown ups and fully aware they can't blame it on the sunshine, moonlight or the good times, because the blame lies totally with the boogie. -

I bit the bullet tonight and upgraded PaleMoon to 25.5.0 tonight.
Browser: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows NT 5.1; rv:25.5) Gecko/20150609 Firefox/31.9 PaleMoon/25.5.0
It was a relatively painless upgrade for once. Nearly all my add-ons kept working. Trouble is, I upgraded them too, which resulted in a few of them breaking each other. Lots of restarting while enabling one add-on at a time looking for conflicts and rolling back to older versions etc.
A couple of wasted hours later, I was back exactly where I started. Everything working just as it was before. That actually makes a nice change. Normally at least one or two regularly used add-ons won't keep working and I need to wait for them to be upgraded or find replacements.
I'm still yet to play with the Pale Moon Commander add-on. Sometime soon. -
Sounds like too much hassle for me. I'll stick with Firefox for awhile longer. The last updates work just fine with all my add-ons.

"If it ain't broke , don't fix it"
Unless there is a damn good reason for changing / updating stuff, don't do it -
I decided as Pale Moon has reached it's final version for XP, I'd have a go at making Firefox useable again. Obviously the chrome-wanna-be look had to go, and I had to slowly go through all the extensions I have installed for Pale Moon, discover those versions mostly don't work with the latest Firefox, find alternative versions or alternative extensions, spend time tweaking settings, sorting out a few conflicts..... a whole afternoon disappeared just so I could end up back where I already was with Pale Moon. I'm not planning on doing any more browser fixing/updating in a hurry.
I still need to sort all the various menu items properly via Menu Editor (I'm amazed it still works) or with the help of Menu Wizard if Menu Editor does turn out to be flaky, but I managed to get Firefox pretty close to being a duplicate of Pale Moon, which was a duplicate of the way I'd set up Firefox before Mozilla made a mess of it anyway.....

@ hello_hello: Sorry to hear that you had to spend a lot of time to fix your Pale Moon after update and glad to hear you managed to do it successfully. Personally before jump update of any of my essential programs I back up all their folders and go to the program forum to check what's going on. Pale Moon has its GUID changed, so some newer versions of addons stop working. You can use 'Disable Add-on Compatibility Checks' addon for example and some of them will still work, or you can use older versions or use addons forked by Pale Moon community.
https://addons.palemoon.org/extensions/all-extensions/
https://forum.palemoon.org/viewforum.php?f=42&sid=75b13b872738fa3508464e1b4ba9c4ec
Sometimes it's better to download addon (even beta/dev) directly from its developer's site. If you have incompatibility problems with any of them ask me or go to Pale Moon forum. If you use(d) Adblock for example change it to Adblock Latitude Next Generation: https://addons.palemoon.org/extensions/privacy-and-security/abl-dev/ . Of course uninstall any old versions. Addons: Customizations for Adblock Plus, Element Hiding Helper and Adblock Plus Pop-up Addon seem to integrate well with Adblock Latitude.
"If it ain't broke, don't fix it" rule is OK, but after some time the program gets too old (even if it visually works well). And when you do a major jump update you might get much more problems than when making small constant updates. Anyway there's no 100% way to not get into trouble one way or another. Unless we are very lucky -
Hi AllisOne. Thanks for the tips.
The PaleMoon upgrade wasn't overly painful. I spent a couple of hours playing around with extensions and everything important worked in the end. I stumbled across the Pale Moon add-ons site myself when the Findbar Tweak extension wouldn't work, and someone, somewhere had posted a link for Finderbar Tweak which is a version modified for Palemoon 25.5
In the end I went with uBlock Origin for ad blocking. I've barely used it yet so I'll see how it goes, but it happily worked in Pale Moon and Firefox so I went with it. It has a built in element hiding helper and popup blocker so the other two extensions aren't needed.
I did spend a bit of time trying older versions of extensions and/or looking for "fixed" versions. Some for Pale Moon, but definitely more for Firefox. I've read quite a lot of " it doesn't work with Firefox v38" type comments while searching for add-ons, so I assume Firefox went through a major change recently and the add-on authors are still catching up . I'll confess I find the whole system pretty frustrating these days, mainly because I have a few of them installed and every Firefox update seems to break something..... I don't understand why it has to work like that. Although now I'm all settled again, I probably won't update anything again for a fair while.... unless something breaks.
