Hi,
Does anyone know if files recorded by an AVerMedia C283S HD EzRecorder Plus can be played in a Western Digital WD TV (WDBYMN0000NBK) without transcoding? Also, does the EzRecorder ignore the broadcast flags?

It will ignore broadcast flags unless new ones are invented in the future such as converting to half hd. Your files will be able to be played on the media player you mentioned. So in short yes and yes

A guy in California sells a similar device that has all the same features as the Aver device (scheduled recording, etc.) but cannot record to an internal 2.5 harddrive, you have to either use usb stick or usb hard drive (you could put the internal harddrive in an $17 adapter case). His device also comes with an hdcp compliant hdmi port that will ignore broadcast flags. You have to upgrade the firmware though:
