    Hi all

I just made an account today to see if anyone can help me with a small issue.

I have 500+ MKV movies that all are in their individual folder. I use KODI as my player where in there i can see what sound it uses (dolby digital or DTS for example) and what size it is. 720 or 1080.

So my question is that i would like to be able to view them all at the same time, kinda like in Explorer, but where it shows the info i need in the colums, in this case size and sound.
Is there any programs that can show this? Since Explorer can't. Its just empty when i put on fram for example. Since im guessing it can't see what the metadata is for an MKV?

I use Windows 7 just FYI.

Ask away if you need more info.

  2. No sure about Windows 7 but in Windows 8.1 explorer can show Frame width, height, rate & audio details.

Set explorer view to show details, highlight a column select more then add the above columns and any others that you need.

  3. Unless Windows 7 has native support for MKV (which it doesn't have) it won't show any info about MKV file. Maybe with Icaros installed?

I have Windows 7 Ultimate 32 bit and it shows the info of frame size etc down the bottom of the window containing the mkv files.

What does it do?? I have tried to google it. But only found the program. No real explanation. I mean does it show the view as in Explorer with the colums?

  7. Windows 7 doesn't even know MKV files are media files unless you install a third party MKV reader/splitter. If you want to see details in explorer you'll need a Shell Extension for MKV.

I have mkvmergui installed but certainly no shell extensions. I guess what you mean is something that shows up with right click? I will post a screen grab later after I come back from the dentist

If anything will enable Shell Extensions, that will.

Be weary of Codec Packs though, although someone else originally installed this on my PC and I've yet to have any problems with it.

(you could find out what component it uses that does the trick and install only that instead...)

  10. When Icaros Property filetypes activated:

Then column in windows file explorer for MKV or MP4 can displayed:

Yup, "icaros", that's what the codec pack uses too.

    Problem solved.

Well I don't use a codec pack below is the capture of the a window. The file itself is at the end of my network on an attached drive to my Popcorn C200. I have also looked at a file on my C drive in Videos and it's the same for all file types including .TS

Do you have the Haali Media Splitter installed? I kind of remember it being able to add MKV info to explorer in some shape or form. I'm using XP and I don't think it applies to XP, but I remember something along those lines....

Edit: I found couple of entries in the changelog.

02/01/2006 Added thumbnails extraction in explorer, registered for matroska only and disabled in settings by default. Fixed seeking in certain files with AVC. [Matroska] Muxer improvements. [MP4] Some small parser improvements.

25/11/2005 [Matroska] Muxer improvements. [General] Added a shell extension to display info in explorer details view. [OGM] Added some xvid decoder workarounds.

Yes I do have Haali Media Splitter installed. That must be what is enabling it - I had forgotten I had it. If I can find my old XP drive (in "a" cupboard somewhere!) I will fire it up and see if it had it as well, I think it does?

  15. Yeah it looks like it can install for XP too. I'm still using XP although I never use Explorer as even the free version of xplorer˛ is way better (going back to Explorer would be like going back to using a browser without tabs.... unthinkable), but I checked and it doesn't appear as though Explorer is showing much info for MKVs. Maybe if the Explorer additions are optional when you install the splitter I elected not to install them at the time. Chances are I wouldn't have.
