  1. I tried to play a .mkv file in my blu-ray player and it worked well, I was able to activete subtitles and different audio tracks while playing.
Then I tried with another video (in the same container) and it didn't work, the player just said "video format not supported (probably I'm not translating it perfectly), in the last two days I tried to learn something about audio and video formats and even containers, but I think I still know less than anybody here.
Anyways, this is my idea about this problem:
Maybe one of the video formats in the files I played is good for blu-ray player an the other isn't.

Here I write the two video formats and other infos:

    The one which didn't work:
    Video
    ID : 1
    Format : HEVC
Format/Info : High Efficiency Video Coding
    Codec ID : V_MPEGH/ISO/HEVC
    Duration : 2h 15mn
    Bit rate : 1 877 Kbps
    Width : 1 280 pixels
    Height : 536 pixels
    Display aspect ratio : 2.40:1
    Frame rate mode : Constant
    Frame rate : 23.976 fps
    Bits/(Pixel*Frame) : 0.114
    Stream size : 1.78 GiB (58%)
Title : V ideo H.265 (Encoded by ZMachine)
    Default : Yes
    Forced : No

    The one that did work:

    Video
    ID : 1
    Format : AVC
    Format/Info : Advanced Video Codec
    Format profile : High@L4.0
    Format settings, CABAC : Yes
Format settings, ReFrames : 4 frames
    Codec ID : V_MPEG4/ISO/AVC
    Duration : 1h 53mn
    Bit rate : 5 000 Kbps
    Width : 1 920 pixels
    Height : 800 pixels
    Display aspect ratio : 2.40:1
    Frame rate mode : Constant
    Frame rate : 23.976 fps
    Color space : YUV
    Chroma subsampling : 4:2:0
    Bit depth : 8 bits
    Scan type : Progressive
    Bits/(Pixel*Frame) : 0.136
    Stream size : 3.87 GiB (83%)
    Writing library : x264 core 142 r2479

IS THERE A REASON FOR THAT? DEEP THANKS

  2. Many Bluray players support AVC (h264) video in MKVs (it's a format used for Bluray video) but not HEVC (h265).
HEVC is relatively new and not very well supported by hardware players yet (support is almost non-existent).

  4. Yes. You can convert HEVC to AVC with HandBrake / Vidcoder.
