  1. Help!!!!!!!!!!! Urgent!!!!!!!!!!
My Sony Vegas Pro 13 doesn't open a file I worked on it yesterday!
I work on a music video clip and yesterday (as always) I saved it and backup-ed it
before closing down. Today it DOESN'T open !!!!!!! Not even the backup file and
NOT even the "veg.bak" file !!! It says "Error opening... file corrupted or unknown"!!!
I'm very anxious, as it's work from three weeks and I have no way to restore everything I did
with image choices, combinations, transitions etc. Describing all in another file would become
a whole book... so I'm really in a trouble.

Could anyone give a suggestion? A picture of the message is attached.

    Supplementary information:

I re-started my computer in 'Safe mode' and tried to open my file from there and...
it gave me a supplementary error message:
    "Error Unsupported OpenGL version!
HitFilm plug-in requires OpenGL 2.0 or above and GLSL 1.2 or above.
The current versions used are OpenGL 1.1 and GLSL 0.0"

So that means I must find these updates. Any suggestions?

  2. Did you try rebooting ?

Did you update some software or drivers in that time between ?

Do you have a windows restore point ?

In the future, a workflow tip is to save sequential files when you save the file periodically eg..

    project001
    project002
    project003
    .
    .
    .
    etc..

It's less likely that all of them would be corrupted and sometimes you need to revert to an earlier version of the project before some changes were made

  3. Vegas Pro autosaves every 5 minutes. You may be able to find a recent version close to your current one.

  4. Yes, as I said, it doesn't open ANY of the previously saved neither the .bak file.
    BUT !
I re-started my computer in 'Safe mode' and tried to open my file from there and...
it gave me a supplementary error message:
    "Error Unsupported OpenGL version!

So that means I must find these updates. Any suggestions?

  5. Safe mode only loads minimal things, like critical dll's and drivers . Unnecessary ones are not loaded

Again, did you do anything like install a new plugin or software or drivers in the meantime ?

I wouldn't do anything like find updates or install anything until you resolve this issue

Re-install HitFilm. HitFilm has some small integration with VP.

I didn't do ANYTHING else, I just finished my work yesterday evening, saved the file, backed it up and closed my computer.
Today when opening the file it gave me the error message(s). I did nothing meanwhile except that in my work yesterday I used
that HitFilm plug-in (which is inside Vegas Pro) for one of my images. And I saw the Error message (this time in Safe mode)
    warning about HitFilm exactly.

YES! That's true and it's what I thought to do from now and on. But my current project must not be lost, it's a lot of work during three weeks!
And I can hardly reconstruct it all by memory...

  9. It's sad, but I have no other ideas

You can try at the Sony Vegas forums, they might have some other ideas

The point I made earlier about safe mode was that some drivers etc.. won't get loaded in safe mode , so that message might be "normal." When you boot up in "normal" mode, check your openGL version first, before you install/update anything. The more things you do/install, the less likely you're going to recover anything

Reinstall Vegas, then reinstall the Hitfilm Openfx plugins.

Unless you're running pirate copies, you have no fear to lose anything.

I've had both Vegas and Premiere give me similar "corrupted/unknown" error warnings on project files that previously I've opened, edited, then closed without saving (so clearly there is no change in the project, nor the file, and it worked fine) and then attempted to re-open.

I believe it has more to do with resource allocation & memory leaks or with bugginess with certain codec combinations. Make sure you are running Lean & Mean to not already overburden your session. Also, make sure your assets aren't strewn across a network (it should be ok, but that's just one more thing to tax the system, especially if the net connection is not ideal).

I would suspect Hitfilm's code is buggy.

You can "feel" the porting dragging on the system resources. I decided to go for the standalone HitFilm and just render back to a Vegas friendly file, like .MXF.

You can still do compositing and 2.5D animations. It doesn't all have to be "Live". Hey, am I rambling? Dagg Nab It.

Actually, I render out most everything to PNG stills. Lot easier to work with.

  13. Answering all your friendly suggestions.

    1. It becomes obvious that the problem is with the HitFilm plug-in, I suppose.

    2. Yes, I should mention that I run a "pirate" version I took from someone. I'm a musician not a video pro, I just sometimes do my own music video clips. So if the "pirate" is a problem, I should possibly buy the original software. But will the original open the file that the "pirate" takes as "corrupted/unknown"?

    3. As I have my file double-saved, I suppose it will not be influenced or damaged if I try to do/install whatever more things in the software Vegas Pro itself.

    4. Ok, I re-installed Vegas Pro but nop, it still doesn't want to open my file! But it still works fine with other files from projects I've worked before. So re-installing doesn't solve anything.

I really need to find a solution, I can't let this file go lost !!...
