  1. When trying to play older (2000-2007) VHS tapes they stop and start on their own. When in FF or SLOW mode the play fine. I tried in an older VCR and then bought a VCR/DVD combo but the same thing happens. What could be the problem? (Some tapes do have mold)
A factory (cartoon) tape works fine.

Try running them fast forward all the way thru and back again a few times. Sometimes the tape gets sticky from non-use.

  3. Comparing a "factory (cartoon) tape" to "older (2000-2007) VHS tapes" may not be a good apples-apples comparison:

o Are the "older (2000-2007) VHS tapes" standard 2hr-6hr (-8hr) which were originally blank? They cram a lot of tape onto their reels.

o How much tape is on the "factory (cartoon) tape"? I suspect it may be far, far less than those that started out as a blank one.

So, Play/FF/RW for a short tape may be far easier because there's so much less tape to produce resistance vs. a 2-6(-8)hr tape.

    Try what zoobie recommends.
