  1. I'm new to video and I'm not sure were to post this question.
I'd like to be able to view mp4 and mp3 files (randomly/shuffling) from a usb drive on a TV which will be in my game room. Can anyone tell me if this is possible and how to go about it. I looked into purchasing a Samsung smart TV. The Samsung TV will do the shuffling of mp3's from the usb, but it seems like the TV won't do shuffling of mp4's. Is there a free App that might do shuffling of mp4's.

  2. Sounds like you are looking for some sort of 'jukebox' software (or streaming media server). How you implement this and cast to your tv is another problem.
Here are a couple of examples (untested):

    Good luck.

  3. I check out the 2 examples on your post, but that's not what I'm looking for.

The easiest solution for me would be a Samsung Smart TV player app for mp4's that would do shuffle/random playing.
    Anyone have any suggestions.

You can't add apps to a TV. All players and media players play video files in sequence. To play them out of order, you either browse and play one at a time, or create a playlist (PC playback only as far as I know).

Perhaps not helpful for the OP but ...

A DVD player has a random function. Like

True, but they are standalone apps such as "YouTube" or "Hulu". None of which will help with playing video files from storage media. But yes, you are correct.

  9. The easiest way is to connect a hdmi cable (probably from a laptop if you have 'hdmi out') and use any desktop app you like which has a shuffle play function.
