    Hi all,

i've been using mencoder for my various transcoding / capturing tasks, and i've been creating a bunch of batch files to solve each kind of problem. I'm a command line guy, you know.

But now i've had enough, and started to write a configuration file to store my profiles in. The problem is, mencoder won't use it.
Yes, i have read a bunch of MAN and Wiki pages, tutorials and forum entries, googled for hours, but none of them helped in my exact situation. Most of the howtos are related to the linux system, and some of the posted error logs are from an OS X environment. No sign of Windows.

Important note: I did not install mplayer or any other software containing mencoder.exe, i am launching a "portable" mencoder.exe at some custom point of my file system. I neither would like to fire up some GUI solution, as i use mencoder for various tasks.

Anyway, i have been trying to place and name my configuration file as global and user config file in several locations like:
    %mencoder_executable_path%\mplayer\config
    %mencoder_executable_path%\.mplayer\config
    %mencoder_executable_path%\mencoder\config
    %mencoder_executable_path%\.mencoder\config
    %mencoder_executable_path%\mplayer\mencoder.conf
    %USERPROFILE%\.mplayer\config
    %USERPROFILE%\.mplayer\config\mencoder.conf
    %USERPROFILE%\.mplayer\config\mplayer.conf
    %USERPROFILE%\.mencoder\config
    %USERPROFILE%\.mplayer\mencoder.conf
    %USERPROFILE%\.mplayer\mplayer.conf
    but none of them worked.

I've tried to check the location by running mencoder with the -v switch, but it was just searching for only the codecs.conf file in some locations above mentioned.

Any help is welcome. Thank you in advance.

If you are using a portable version, there isn't a global reference, it simply runs from the folder/location of the exe file.
