    update - and success..

i gave the 64GB SanDisk Ultra usb 3 flash drive, (fat32, 100MB/s speed) a test run anyway, and as it turns out, it is performing very well vs the 64GB and 32GB microSD that i tried. and under delphi xe7 there are no delays, compiling is quick, so far. Now i just need to find one that fits snugly without protruding out and quick to remove, and we are good to go.

Every so often my laptop mysteriously damages my usb 3 mem stick. I don't how it can do that since it is always in. When working on my programming projects, I leave the laptop on, but in sleep mode. Sometimes it goes into sleep mode if I leave it unattended for longer than an hour. Other times, I will just select the START button and select Sleep. I do this because I have a browser window open with so many tabs, (reloading them is slow and a pain), so I mainly have the laptop in sleep mode.

However, last night I was ok with shutting it down completely, and went to bed. This morning I went to work and started up my laptop. And when I launched my Delphi XE7 app, it would not load, because it said that the mem stick was damaged and needed for format it. I put the mem stick in another computer and I got the same message, that is was damaged and needed to be reformatted.

So, I ended up reformatting it. Then, I started to re-copy all the files from a folder on my laptop's HDD to the usb 3 mem stick. It took over 2 hours to copy 15GB of files, even over usb 3.0

I am finding that I have do this more times than expected. I have decided that an SD card is not a good idea (unless I connect an external usb 3 host) so I am using a shallow usb 3.0 mem stick instead.

What can I do to speed this whole copy process ?

  3. Are you absolutely certain that you have a legitimate memory stick? Lots of fakes being sold on Ebay.

I use these SanDisk Ultra fit models. The short ones stick out less than a 1/4", so not much worry about knocking them out of the socket. I have a 32GB and a 64GB.
