Okay. I've been downloading full Nine Inch Nails videos using a Morpheus type program called Grokster. These take 4 hours to download. And they're fairly good quality I guess. I assume the orriginal source was from a VHS and they used some kind of video capture card to make these into mpeg's.
I gathered 5 videoes. And tried to burn them with my Nero 5.0.0.8 which came with my Acer 6x4x32 CD Burner. I wasted 2 disc trying to do that.
Then by suggestion of a friend I tried to update to the new Nero. It erased my old version then installed itself. Then it said some crap about how they want me to pay for registering. I find that crappy how they force you to delete your old version than try to con you into buying a new version which will most likely not work because it wasn't bundled with your particular burner. Nopes.. Not gunna do it, found a Keygen on Grokster. And proceded to try a 3rd time to burn these videos to a VCD.
I read your instructions on how to do it. And I set it to re-encode the file for NTSC standard compliance. I hit burn.. it was sooooo slow. and It wasn't burning anything it was just re-encoding the file. I thought "jeebus gripes this is gunna take 3 days with my crappy 233 mhz celeron!!!"
I turned off the standard compliance and attempted again to burn. It worked. And It played in my APEX AD 1100-W model DVD Player
(these things got functions and capabilities out the whazoo which is pretty sweet for just $79 at Wal-Mart) Some parts like the beginings of each vid were just a little blocky but on a 28 inch TV sitting on a futon thats 10 feet away with my crappy nearsighted blurry vision you don't notice it too much. But still being OCD like I am and a perfectionist I wanna make it better. But how do i expect to make something that was ripped from VHS into near DVD quality? I doubt it can be done.

What I would like to know is if there is >ANY< possible way to add some kind of buffer or filter to the MPG? I wish Nero woulda put in some plugins.
I've tried to use DVMPEG to add some dithering or blur but it will only encode the file as AVI. AVI is just too frikken huge took a whole gigabyte just to try to rencode March of The Pigs with a gaussian blur and then my AVI2MPG soft wouldn't do it. Said it didn't have any sound or video. And the volume on March of The Pigs is too loud. Its not to the point of distortion but it is louder than the rest of the vidoes which is an annoyance for me.
If you know of anyways to enhance the quality and maybe adjust the volume. Or know of any programs that can help me (hopefully ones that will not be for AVI or some other extension) please email me

How much is a VCD movie compared to a DVD? I would like to find a VCD or DVD of the movie "Natural Born Killers." Thats the movie that Trent Reznor helped produce and make soundtrack for. It is a very excellent movie.

You used Nero to reencode the file as downloaded (am AVI?). Instead I would suggest you try using TMPGEnc which if free and supports a few filters (sharpen, noise reduction and others). It can also change the volume level. If these filters are not enough try frameserving from VirtualDub (there are guides on this site).
TMPGenc will make a MPEG1/2 compliant VCD that you can burn using Nero (or all other buring programs that support VCD).
Hope this helps you. -
Dude, NEVER use Nero to Encode Anything! Nero does a crappy job of encoding, The Video looks like your're looking through a dirty pane of glass. Use TMPEnc to encode your .Avi or Divx file to an Mpeg file, then you're in business! Just open up Nero & drag the Mpeg file over into the box & click Burn & you're are done!

They're >not< in avi. these are Mpg's I'm downloading from Grokster that someone else has already ripped and encoded as 352x240 res mpg.
I found TMPGEnc on Grokster now. gunna try to download it. and >hopefully< it will be able to add effects or some clarity to my mpg's and still be able to save them >as< mpg's. I just can't use something thats made specifically for AVI files. they're just too friggen huge. I already tried virtual dub with no luck. Also tried Mpeg2VCR. The only thing its good for is making pictures from an mpeg.. so I decided to make loading screens for each video."All the pigs are all lined up. I give you all that you wnt. Take the skin and peel it back.. But doesn't it make you feel better?"- Trent Reznor

If they are MPEG files, they are probably not VCD-compliant.
Open TMPGEnc, go into File/MPEGTools, and into the Multiplex or Merge and Cut subsections.
Make sure to select the file type as VCD Pal or VCD NTSC as the need may be; load up the file you need to re-encode, give it a new name and press the OK button.
Result: within a few minutes, a brand new VCD compliant MPEG file that Nero will have no problem with.

Tried to use TMPGEnc to re-code March Of The Pigs and cut volume down to 56%. The volume change went well.. but the video.. there is no video after the first frame.. grrrrrrrrrrr! Multiplex? what? alright I guess i'll try again and do that. Also specifically what settings should I use to get a clearer less blocky mpeg result?

WOW! that worked.. sweeeet! and Nero didn't nag saying it was incompliant or anything! I'm so glad there are such intelligent people here to help me with my problems *gives everyone big vulpine hugs*
now a new question. I made screen captures using MPG2VCR. what it does is is saves a screenshot of the video in a .bmp at a res of 100 pixels/inch.(wait a sec.. didn't I get that from this site? then you'll know what I'm talking about then.) Then I put this in Photo Impact and use my Downward Spiral font to add a desricption for each video. I save this as .BMP then I stick it in Adobe Photo Delux so I can check the size and save it as a JPEG (why stick it in Adobe? Well because my Photo Impact refuses to view or save JPEG and it gives an error). Anyways I use Adobe to save and it makes a 100 pixels/inch 352x240 JPEG image. Which is what the size of the mpeg's res when I hit pause and hit "Snapshot."
I stick these into my Nero vcd session each to their corresponding video.
When I preview the pic in Nero by pressing play the window is bigger than what it is when I play an mpeg..
When I burn my vcd will these loading screens stay within the size of my TV screen or will they be too big and go off the edge of the screen?
Also would it be advised to leave the "Pause After Track" setting to 'Infinite' ? because in my first attempts I made a few pictures in my VCD and little credits and stuff. And set each pic to pause 3 seconds.. and it messed it up it just stayed on the first picture. I hit the next(advance) button and it still wouldn't get off of the first image.
Oh and March Of The Pigs is still a bit loud and so is Coma White, it seems to be just an atribute of mpegs from MoshShockerz.c0m
Coma White and M.o.T.P. were both encoded/ripped by them.
So I wrote a little thingie in the jpeg that will come up saying to turn the volume down or else get deafened.. as stupid as that may sound but hey its practical.
