  1. Hi,
im new to downloading but have had some success.I have been downloading video files which had avi at the end of there description with no problem, then burning them with nero(which also encodes)them to disk.I then seen one file to download with divx at the end which was a much bigger file,so i thought it might be better quality then avi.The file has downloaded fine but media player(which i use to check the quality)wont play it.It says requesting codecs then says error downloading codes and then plays just the audio file of the movie. So i thought i would just try to burn using nero on the normal way(vcd>mpegav)but this gives an error saying unsupported file format. Is this an error with the file i have downloaded or is it alot more complicated than avi files?.
Please help,it took ages to download the file :( :(

  3. Download codecs from www.divx.com
I have problems with the latest 5.xx so I went back to the older ones.
(i had the stuttering video and out of sync audio).Upon reusing the older codecs it rectified the problem.
Also look at the Tools section to your left. There you can get some codec downloads.Nimo's is popular.

  4. haggis is right, all you need are the proper codecs. Try any of the DivX codecs from the tools sections of this website.

  5. thanks for your help.
It has worked the codecs is letting me watch the movie better now.Nero has just spent the last 3 hrs encoding it.But now it wont let me burn it because the file is to big for one cd.I was hoping that it would burn it till full then ask for another cd.
Can anybody help ne split this file?.

  6. First of all I suggest you use TMPGE for encoding.
If you use the guides showing how to use the bitrate calculator then you will be able to fit an average movie (SVCD) on 2 cd's.
You can, however try some of the other VCD,XVCD tempaltes and settings that may allow you to fit it on 1 cd'(with quality loss most likely).
If you have to split the MPEG you can do it in the Tools section of TMPGE.
If you want to split it in its previous AVI/DIVX condition you can use Virtualdub.
All these tools are available here for free.
