Hi, I was wondering if there is a way to edit the contxt menu within ptplayer (the one that appears when you right click on the video frame for instance).

I only ever use about half of those entries and I figured it would be nice to declutter!

Actually it is possible. I wouldn't recommend it though as you essentially hide lots of useful (and important) shortcuts. But if the popup menu really bugs you, it can be customized. Make a backup of PotPlayer.dll and edit with a resource editor. e.g. ResHack or eXeScope. Rather than deleting menu items (breaking functionality), choose "GRAYED | INACTIVE" flags.

    Didn't think of such methods.

But everytime potplayer.dll is updated you must fix it again(?). You could of course skip updating it every other week....

Thanks a bunch, i'll try it out sometime!

The enormous quantity of context menu items is a little confusing, especially when inebriated, this will ease my navigational quandary a bit

  7. Don't do that. The recent version checks the integrity of potplayer while starting the player for the sake of avoiding security problems. Editing the resource of the main library will only results in failure of running the player.

Yeah, well just for the heck of it I tried installing the latest 32bit ver (1.6.54265 from potplayer.daum.net), and the installer says I've got a hacked copy! - It's so paranoid it screws it's own new installation! (I uninstalled all old versions first just in case). The installed PotPlayerMini.exe just says "hacked" every time I try to run it. They shouldn't have tried to be so "clever" and just left well enough alone...

Well, it's hard to think the installer cause such a problem as I've been installing (overwriting) every stable/beta releases over the years. Integrity check will be only performed while starting potplayer, not installer. Actually, I've never heard about it...

The installer launches PotPlayerMini.exe as part of it's script. The script extracts a different exe depending on your OS (then renames it). Just because it works on your PC doesn't mean it's not broken for others. (I still use XP on this boot partition)

Out of interest, I loaded PotPlayerMini into a debugger to see why it wouldn't run. I had to patch the "anti patch" checker just so it would run the standard "unpatched" dll. - Well, at least I know it can still be patched.

So yes, this is why I don't upgrade. Silly new "features" like this...

Further to this upgrade in "security" feature, the crew at dvbsupport.net (the translation authority for years) had also noticed the poor implementation. Read the notes under ver 1.6.52049 (must have been when it was first implemented). In case anyone doesn't know, dvbsupport.net were/are the best place to get stable English releases including history notes. The potplayer.daum.net site (with downloads) didn't exist until fairly recently.

    http://www.dvbsupport.net/info/potplayer.html
    Daum PotPlayer 1.6.52049 Beta
"¤ Added a function at program startup to determine whether the PotPlayer.dll is touched or not *"

    * This "needless" function also prevents translated versions, so some friends (especially people who don't use the latin alphabet!) need to resize dialogs/items to adapt their special translations to PotPlayer.(Also, tested on "empty" WinXP system, PotPlayer gives wrong illegal message and doesn't open even its original version!)
Like me, they had to patch it in order to just get it running. The author needs to remove this feature.
