Hi all,
I've used tfm() and Srestore() reasonably successfully before,
but I've not had any luck with a clip with the following properties.
The video is progressive, @ 30 fps. Stepping through it I see a pattern of
1 good frame followed by 4 blended frames. - not sure if I've seen this pattern before.
I'm curious as to how the file got this way, and whether it can be improved.
The clip is from an old movie, the whole thing is on youtube.

Here's a clip re-encoded as Lagarith avi written out of Virtualdub using this script to input the mp4.
Audio = DirectShowSource("I:\itemp\I START COUNTING (1969).mp4", video=false)
Video = FFVideoSource("I:\itemp\I START COUNTING (1969).mp4", track=-1, seekmode=0) #, fpsnum=30000, fpsden=1001)
Video = Video.ConvertToYV12() #
AudioDub(Video, Audio)
Any advice appreciated.

Gotta love that "HDTV" tag on the 360p YouTube upload.
I don't believe there's any way to unblend 4 frames in a row, though I'm not an expert.
As for how it got this way, you can replicate the pattern by using ConvertFPS("ntsc_video") on a 23.976 file in Avisynth. Presumably frame rate conversion in other software would blend the same way.Last edited by Brad; 26th May 2015 at 15:28.

360p, well then there is not much to unblend in the first place.
It's fubar, move on!
Or if you really want it, get the DVD, $9.99 + shipping :

But no guarantee that the DVD is not crap either.

It probably began as field-blended on the DVD and the guy that uploaded it to YouTube didn't know how to handle it properly. It's already been deinterlaced (so it's frame-blended and no longer field-blended) and there's nothing SRestore can do. You're out of luck.
You'd probably have better luck with the DVD to which newpball linked. But DVDs with that kind of field-blending are almost always garbage, even more so than PAL to NTSC field-blended conversions. -
Thanks guys, appreciate your perspectives. I haven't actually seen the movie yet.
An article or link somewhere mentioned it, did a youtube search and there it was.
After downloading it, became more intrigued in the problems with the PQ.
At least now I can get on with actually watching it and forget about trying to "fix" it.
Appreciate that !
Seems a bit of an obscure film, I was wondering if, perhaps, it had been on US TV?
Maybe TCM would play it. -

Yeah, I had a bit of a thing for her too.
It all comes down to seeing the movie "Walkabout" . Going to a boys-only school in England,
I believe I was 13 or 14. The school took our grade to see the movie. We knew nothing about the film
before hand, so you can imagine the effect it had on a bunch of newly adolescent boys.
We all grew up that day.Last edited by davexnet; 27th May 2015 at 11:47.

Perhaps there is not an official release, youtube @ 360p and field blends, as good as it gets (for now).
