    All,

Is there an Blu Ray equivalent to the Dvd file VIDEO_TS.IFO ? Essentially, I'd like to know if there is a single file within a Blu Ray rip that I can pass off to a Blu Ray capable software player that will result in launching the full Blu Ray folder? If I pass the VIDEO_TS.IFO file to a software dvd player (e.g. mphc) the full dvd structure will begin playing. Is there a Blu Ray equivalent?

    Thanks.

Your answer may be found in 'What Is' at the top of this page.

I do not know of a single free-ware player that supports full BD playback. Never tried it but read that vlc just plays back the .mts file

It's sad and pathetic that Blu Ray has been out this long and there are still no free players. Yet another reason to NEVER regret my choice to not buy anything Blu Ray yet.

  4. The closest thing I can think of is if you do a movie-only rip of a Blu-Ray. Then you can open the single playlist file (*.mpls) in, say, MPCHC or MPCBE, and have audio, chapter, and subtitle stream selection via right-click. No menu though.

Why do people give a damn about Blu-Ray menus anyway? On the rare occasions I think I'll be interested in an extra, I'll watch it once from the original disc. Main movie I rip from disc to MKV and put on the server. Most of my Blu-Rays have never been played on a standalone.
    Pull! Bang! Darn!

The direct answer to the 1st part of your question is INDEX.BDMV. Actually makes more sense as an over-arching point-of-startup name.

2nd part, has already been explained: no FOSS player supports the full BD spec (probably never will). And only TMT3 supports ISOs as a commercial player, IIRC.

  7. Or let something read BDMV structure , like eac3to
    "C:\tools\eac3to\eac3to.exe" "G:" -LOG="C:\temp\feature_titles.txt"
    Code:
    eac3to v3.27

that gives you titles with particular playlists, that you have to play, so then you just can drop particular playlist (mpls) onto MPC-BE for example and it will start to play, even for example 00031.mpls will play correctly, where it joins seamlessly ...
you have to have decryption running in the background, line anydvdhd if talking about commercial BD's ...

  8. ok I take that back, MPC-BE does not work flawlessly with those multiple playlists, I just tested that more thoroughly, normally I just use ffplay and play particular m2ts etc, but there seems to not be reason to play BD on PC other than just some testing before ripping etc., for BD discs there are dedicated devices ... BD players ...

I've been using the freeware VSO Media Player for BD playback. It does give you a playlist to the left side of the screen during playback.

I use that to play extras and as sort of a menu. It plays a BD when directed to it after launching the player.
I do have AnyDVD HD running in the background.
VSO also plays MKV H.264 videos.

Leawo Blu-ray Player worked pretty good with the FEW blu-rays I tested.

I couldn't find any adware in it but I would still be very careful when installing it...

^They must have improved the Leawo Player, as I did some extensive testing of it in early 2014, and it failed more often than it worked.
