  1. how to capture the highest possible quality file, camera(panasonic NV-GS27 miniDV) softvare pinnacle studio ultimate 18 ???And if I convert a big AVI 10gb to a dvd-format how much quality is lost ?

    That camera is a seven year old consumer quality camera, recording standard definition video.

    I am not sure what kind of quality you expect to can get from that.

    The highest possible quality 'capture' for a MiniDV camcorder is to simply transfer the recorded footage via Firewire. That is a direct transfer of the original file. No quality loss at all.

    When it comes to converting those files to a DVD compatible format, there will be some quality loss, but it should be minimal, especially if you use good quality mpeg2 conversion software, and don't try and use too low a bit rate. (Figures for around 6000 -7500Kb should give good results).
