  1. I'm getting a bit fed up of MMC capturing mpegs as mp2's, and Nero having to recode them. What's the best program to try that will let me capture straight to vcd & svcd compliant mpeg?

    Thanks.

I think you need remultiplex the file to VCD or SVCD that what US WinTV-PVR user have to do which dosen't take long to do but we have own tools to do this try using TMPGEnc.

  3. Capturing directly to VCD or SVCD require a hardware encoder, or the slow process of capturing to AVI and then software convert to mpeg (This is if you want the best quality you can get). You can capture directly to mpeg usigng software and a powerful CPU, but I would not recommend a bit rate lower than 3-4Mb/sec. for real-time mpeg capture in software. At captures above 4 Mb/sec software encoders can do a very nice job. For hardware VCD captures, the best card is the PV231, and for SVCD captures try the PV256. (However none of the cards can currently do 48Khz audio captures for DVD compliancy) If you can get Ulead Videostudio 6 to work, it does nice real-time mpeg captures in software from a DV device or ATI AIW cards.

Do you mean like the Hercules AIW 7500 Radeon I've got listed in my PC specs?!

Without meaning to be sarcastic, that's what I'm using! It does capture to mpeg, but (Stinky's words!) a bastardise version (mp2), so Nero has to convert it.

SHS has mentioned multiplexing with TMPGenc; I've tried this, but it adds around 30 mins to the mpeg capture for just a 45 min capture. I'm looking ideally to capture to standard mpeg that can go straight to svcd without conversions (Nero seems to have a problem with the audio sync, in my experience).

    Thanks.......

Emanef thing is you are capture standard mpeg but the standard mpeg don't work with VCD nor SVCD format because it is diff then standard mpeg file

  7. OK, so Nero will still need to recode it then regardless? It doesn't when I capture with the standard vcd setting in MMC, but there's not one for svcd, so am having to guess the settings.
