I am on the lookout for a camcorder that I just want to use as a direct playback device to my tv via hdmi. I am not going to record anything. Just playback tapes. I am considering a used Canon HV30 or HV40. Is there anything else that would be step up from these in terms of playback only ?
I am open to prosumer type cameras, or even just decks. I intend to spend not more than ~$300 for a used device.
Thanks.

imo best playback is the cam that shot the tape, next an HDV deck, then would be something from the same manufacturer as original cam, then anything else.
