You can try tsmuxer. Demux all tracks and add in mkvmergegui.

Perhaps yout ts file does not start cleanly on a ts packet with magic packet start byte ?0x88? and these programs cannot handle reading into the stream to synchronize to the next sequence of 188 byte spaced start bytes? You could look in a hex editor at the very first byte and if it is not that value this could be your problem. VLC is likely smart enough to know that not all recording devices start the ts file cleanly? Good luck and let us know.

That sounds very similar to issues I've had with previous files in the past.

I have solved the problem now anyway. What I did was download TSSniper (freeware) and opened the offending ts file and then saved it as a new project. All tracks can now be read in mkvmerge and avidemux.

    Correction: sync byte is 0x47.

  7. Hi,

I have a very similar problem again, so instead of starting a new thread I thought it would be more appropriate to place it here.

So I have another TS file that I'm having problems playing. None of my video tools can read the video track, only the audio track (both audio and video play OK in VLC). It is a recording of a live broadcast and the same error occurs for each file created. I wonder if there is a problem reading the header?

    In Avidemux:

In TSSniper: (see now the video info is clearly visible in the left column on PID 512, yet only the audio track on PID 4112 recognised in the timeline)

  8. If vlc can read it properly, then ffmpeg should be able to process it . You can try a GUI such as xmediarecode if you are trying to edit /cut

Or you might be able to re-wrap it with ffmpeg into another container so other programs can read it properly
