hmmm, thought this was a forum dedicated to VidCoder. Missunderstanding related to the link where I downloaded the software.

VidCoder is the program. I understand it uses the Handbreak engine.

What information can I provide that would help you analyze the issue?

Admin: please feel free to add "VidCoder" to my subject line for clarity.

    Have you installed .net 4.0?

Hello. Not at home atthe moment, but I beleive when I checked it was 4.0.3 or 4.1.3 in the registry. I have recently installed 4.5 but oddly didnt see it listed in the registry when I checked. I will verify when I get home.

I should ask: does it need that exact version or will any higher version suffice

    Thx

.net 4.0.30319 is in fact installed.

For some reason my windows updated to 4.5 successfully, but does not show this in the registry unless it is buried somewhere else.

Win 7 64bit pro by the way.

    Version = 1.5.31.0 (last non-beta version)
I chose the 64 bit version

Handbrake works, but recently started dropping audio on some conversions made with the VLC capture. Which is one reason I started looking at alternatives. Some posters indicated that VidCoder worked when Handbreak was giving them trouble.

Handbreak however gives an error at startup as well. I will run it and see if I can copy the error message.

    Handbreak error:

Try re-installing Microsoft .NET Framework 4.0

Im racking my brain trying to think of any other info that would be useful to you folks, but I am a complete rookie when it comes to video conversion or encoding.

  10. Third line tells you to reinstall NET Framework 4. So, try to do that. Uninstall current NET Framework and install it again.

Jeeze, life moving too fast I red that too quickly and missed the "re". Not enough hours in the day.

Will give that a shot. Hopefully installing ontop works as I didnt find .NET in add remove programs.

    thx

    I get the following message.

    Details

Same or higher version of .NET Framework 4 Client Profile has already been installed on this computer.

The .NET I have in add/remove programs is 4.5. Does Handbreak not work properly with newer versions?

Okay, so I have installed 4.5 after receiving the errors, thus the issue does not appear to be only a .NET framework issue.

Any other information I could provide to help trouble shoot this? Or could someone recommend a conversion software that does as nice a conversion as Handbreak? I used SuperC in the past but got very poor results converting my webcam records from VLC.

    Thx

Dont give up on VidCoder just yet..Uninstall any previous versions and make sure you uninstall any settings files if it prompts you to,then download the 2.2 beta portable version 64bit or x86 if your using a 32bit system put it in a folder of your choosing then clic the.exe and be patient the first time its loading..It works fine.I have never installed VidCoder and I have always updated to a newer beta portable without fail and it is my encoder of choice...Good Luck
