    Hi.

I'm new here. I just bought Aiseesoft HD Converter for Mac. I tried the demo and it seemed to work fine, but it only will record 5 minutes, so I didn't see a size problem at the time.

Now, I've bought it, and yes, it's converting, but it's making the files huge. A 20 minute file is taking up almost 17 gigs. To me there seems to be no compression at all, or am I just misreading the situation?

I am trying to convert Nikon .mov files, to files that I can use in FCP6 without having to render every time I make a change. I found one blog from a couple of years ago that said use the "Apple ProRes 422(*mov) which I did. But it also says to use H.264/ACV MOV for the output format. But I don't see that as existing, and it seems I can only choose one or the other if I were to choose anything else with the H.264 compression. Yet, in properties, it states that FCP setting uses H.264. However, since they're so big, I need to know if they *can* be compressed more, or if I need to buy extra drives.

Can anyone help? By next week I'm going to have to start dumping more footage from four more classes, and I need to know which direction to go.

    Thanks.

APPLE ProRes is huge and can't be compressed more. Especially if your video is in HD.

Thanks for the info, Baldrick. Is there another codec I can use that will allow me to work with the file in FCP, without having to render it while working, that will create smaller files?
