  1. Using Avidemux 2.6.8 x64 under Win 7 x64.

After editing MPG/MP4 files and saving with new names, I am able to close the open item (File/Close) in Avidemux, immediately delete the original from Windows Explorer, and load a new file -- in other words, Avidmux works normally.

When working with FLV files, however, after saving the edit and closing the original, I cannot delete the original because Windows claims it is still "open in Avidemux." The only solution is to close Avidemux, delete the file, and load a new instance of Avidemux.

No idea what may be causing this -- any ideas? any workarounds or solutions? It's less a real problem than a PITA, but still...

  2. One of the utilities I always install after I install Windows is Unlocker.

It appears these days the installer comes with some sort of OpenCandy type adware (I don't recall that myslf but it's been a while since I last installed it). According to Wikipedia, you can elect not to install the Adware during the installation process. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Unlocker

Once it's installed you can right click on any file, select "Unlocker" and you'll be able to tell if the file is locked, unlock it and/or kill the process responsible. It can also install the "Unlocker Assistant" which runs as an icon in the system tray and whenever you try delete a locked file it'll run Unlocker for you. I don't bother with that myself as I prefer to keep the background processes to a minimum and I don't need to unlock files all that frequently and it's a quick three click process to unlock a file. Far more convenient than having to close software and open it again.

  3. Thanks, I already have Unlocker installed and use it from time to time. But it's a helluva lot more annoying to invoke a second program which might or might not work immediately (sometimes Unlocker politely informs you you'll need to restart to delete your target) than it is to simply close and reopen Avidemux. If I can't find a solution from within the editor I'll make my peace with it.

  4. I have not found a solution to this problem, but thought I'd share your frustration. So, you're not alone, and I doubt it's systemic in origin. Seems to be a bug in Avidemux code. I'm running XP SP3, though my Vista does this also. PITA for sure. Shrug...will check back if I find a solution. Invoking Unlocker is like the throwing the baby out with the bath water. *chuckles* )
