Recover a Removable Hard Drive After a Restore?

Hello Gurus:
I forgot to remove my removable hard drive before I recovered my C: drive. The C: drive went well, but the removable drive only shows a folder name PRELOAD and a text file name MASTER.LOG. Any hope for me?

Try running the Windows checkdisk and getting it to check for file system errors. Is it still called chec-disk these days? I lost the contents of a 2TB external drive once. I'm not sure why, but I plugged it in and it looked almost empty. I ran checkdisk and it fixed the file system and I got access to everything back.

Other than that, the best "recovery" software I've used is without a doubt GetDataBack, but it's not free. I think you can download the trial though and scan drives, but the it won't recover until you buy it. Don't install anything on the drive in question, use it, or even look at it for too long before running file recovery software. Assmuning that's what you're planning on doing...... and install the recovery software on another drive, scan, and preferably recover the files to a different drive too.
