  1. Hello.
I have used an SRT file on a video, and there were no subs (ENG).
I have created a file, and ran it, and it did work (TEST).
I could not find any difference in syntax between the files.
maybe someone can help me understand why one file will work while the other will not.

    thank you.

  2. Are you sure you have subs file and movie file named the same?

    nameofmovie.avi (.mp4 or whatever)
    nameofmovie.srt

I tested both your .srt subs files and both work fine once named the same as video file.

  3. How do you play them? One is UTF-8 encoded. The other ANSI.

  4. thank you for your answers.

I am using a player that is attached to my TV .
not sure what type of encoding it is using.

one file I have downloaded, and I have created the TEST file.

aren't they using the same encoding ?

  5. How do I modify a UTF-8 file into ANSI ?
maybe that would solve the problem...

  6. The one you downloaded is UTF-8. Open it in Notepad. Save As. In the bottom of the window select Ansi as Encoding.

  7. thank you for that.
    that worked!

another question, I have also downloaded subs in Hebrew.
    those subs appear as gibberish.
any ideas as how I can view them correctly ?

  8. For Hebrew you'll normally need UTF-8 encoding. But since your player needs ANSI it needs to accept the code page (ANSI) for Hebrew (862) so again .. Player?

    Else you can hardcode them.

  10. And all Google hits on that is in Hebrew .. whch is Greek to me.

Anyway, try open it in Notepad++. Use Encoding -> Character Set -> Hebrew -> OEM 852
