I wasn't sure if I should post this in the video editing or capturing thread as I get the feeling that even though its all the HD PVR's fault, the solution lies in the bowels of Avidemux which, for a non-videophile like myself, is a bit scary. Anyway, I got an HD PVR 1504 from eBay a few weeks ago and it works great except I hate how it handles colors. I've played with the video colors on the device running in both OS X and Windows as well as various filters in Avidemux and it really hasn't helped much; characters on the screen still appear akin to the walking dead or plastic, I can't seem to find that sweet spot. Any advice would be most appreciated. I'm recording from a variety of sources, mainly a PS3 through Component cables, but recently I've used a splitter to use HDMi and the color hasn't really changed. In comparison, though my Eyetv is limited to 720p/1080i its colors are much closer to the original source so I know this isn't simply an issue of using analog component cables.
Here are some pics from a show; the first is the original from the Hauppauge and the second is my best attempt in Avidemux. Playing with the gamma allowed me to breathe a little life into the video but they still appear off.
