  1. What would be the best type of equipment to use if the goal was to provide product information to our clients while they wait in our lobby?

  2. iPads work well because they can be interactive. There are theft-proof frames that also prevent users from accessing the home button.

@smrpix, in a lobby the smaller form factor of iPads would not work that well (people could not really be able to sit close enough), exception being the interactivity feature idea. But where would the OP get this interactivity?

I'd just get a high, wall-mounted smart-TV w/ USB port (at the back) and slap a couple of appropriate clips on there (flash drive) and put it into loop mode (most can do that).

If the idea is to allow customers to watch TV as well as product information, LG and some others make TVs specifically for that use. They are supposed to be a bit more robust than a standard LCD TV and support for digital signage is built-in.

Yes, that is the simplest way!

Since your audience is captive I would restrict the material to information only, not promotion or advertisements.

I was envisioning a different kind of scenario, a more personalized experience where a number of ipads would be available on tables or walls. Each would have a number of different videos allowing clients to choose which to watch or not watch. We do it, for example, in museums all the time.

Since OP doesn't specify the size of the lobby or type of business, the question allows for multiple interpretations.

No, sounds very cool. I was just on a different track after hearing "looping"...
