Hello. I posed this question last week but it was deemed a "Mac specific" topic and moved to the Mac forum (there was zero response there). Actually, I think it does belong here as I am happy to use only Premier Pro to solve it and it definitely has to do with conversion and (probably) pixel ratios. I am trying to capture VHS video (no Macrovision) and convert sections of it to mpeg2 for play on my Sony TV (32"/720) via USB drive. I have done so many times with other sources and never had a problem until now (mostly ripping DVDs and converting downloaded youtube vids, etc.).

I am importing the VHS footage using Premier Pro CS6 through an old Canon Optura 50 DV camera, then I export sections of it using the NTSC DV preset in PP, then that file is converted to an mpeg2 file via another program (I've used several that work fine for this stage of the process). This is what I am getting when I try to play the resulting mpeg2 file on my set:

Finally, I tried the H.264 codec (for the initial export from PP) and changed the pixels to "square" and it seems to play ok on my TV (but I have NO idea why). I guess I'm wondering what the consequences of doing this are. I would like to preserve this video in the best detail possible and also be able to burn these files to a DVD as well as play on my TV using the USB drive function. Changing the pixel ratio seems like a rather destructive thing to do and I wondered if there was some other setting I am missing that would fix this problem and allow me to leave the pixels as they are. Thanks for any help.
