  1. I'm looking for a good capture card to cap in that kind of resolution. If the card can do MPEG capture as well(hardware based) then that is fine but for the most part I will be capping uncompressed AVI and converting them using TMPEG. I am going to be using V-dub since I hear it supports some good features for captures. Any suggestions, thanks.

  3. Hi:

Get a WinTV Go with S-Video in for about $50.00.

    And get these drivers.
    http://btwincap.sourceforge.net

Capture with the Huffy CODEC and you'll be set.

  4. I use the Visiontek Xtasy Everything. It comes with WinDVD and WinDVR. The latter does realtime software mpg compression. I've used WinDVR to make vcds and it looks ok but for the best quality I use V-Dub and Tmpgenc. The card's ok for gaming as long as you don't need GeForce 3 or 4 performance.

  5. I capture with a plain jane 32MB ATI AIW at (among other resolutions) 720x480, in either MPEG-2 or uncompressed AVI and it works just fine.

  6. I recently intalled a Pinnacle Studio Deluxe card with the Studio 7 software. Capture quality is much better than my old MJPEG card and video quality has been very good. No problems with lip-syn, my 45 minute analog capture came out surprising very well. I using a Althon 1800XP system with Windows 2000 and lots of Hard Drive space. Micro Center Computers has the complete package on sale for $250.00. I also use MediaStudio Version 6.5 for final editing and everything seems to work great. Highly recommended.

you don't need a new capture card to capture 720x480 just get the program called PowerVCR II it was modes that high. it works with my old Pctv Pinnacle Systems USB card which before I use this program it did not work at anything higher than 320x288 in Avi programs . But one thing is that this program does not use real res modes but if the card has them either way it does not matter because they program works and can capture even in SVCD (480x480) mode with any capture card and enables it in the reg which you can find in my other posts

    Thanks kwag
for the website with wintv drivers. I was able to install the new driver for my hauppage win tv fm card, which i bought for 20 dolars (on sale), and now im able to capture at 720x480. Before i was only able to capture at 320x240 max which was driving me crazy and i was about to give up and either buy a new more expensive capture card or buy a new camcorder with firewire output but im glad i didnt. Once again thanks alot for saving me money and time.

  10. Take a look at the link in my signature for some captures I have made with the WinTV GO via S-Video. Specially the "Mixed" capture.
