Hello, I'm using Windows 7 and Handbrake version 10.1.
Whenever I start it up, I get this message and when I try to encode, it gets stuck at 0.00%.
I already tried to contact Handbrake Support but I don't get answers.

    An Unknown Error has occured.

If you google "MS.Internal.AppModel.ITaskbarList.HrInit()" you only get 8-16 results....Maybe something wrong with your windows installation or .net framework.

    Tried reinstall .net 4.0?

    Will be trying that now.
EDIT: Do I need to reinstall 4.0 specifically? I have a newer version installed.

Reinstalling .net 4.0 Client Profile didn't work. Any other ideas? I followed these instructions: https://trac.handbrake.fr/wiki/SupportFAQ#netFramework

I had a problem like that with Handbrake 10.0 and running a registry cleanup helped. I would un-install Handbrake first. Hope
this helps you. Best of luck.

Go back to a restore point made before the errors started.

Or install VidCoder and see if it works. I prefer it over Handbrake anyway, though its basically just a different GUI with a few extra options.

Can you install and run an earlier version of Handbrake OK? For example version 0.99 or 0.99.1.

Edit: Kerry56 beat me to it. Definitely try VidCoder if my above suggestion doesn't work.

0.9.5 Works perfectly, 0.9.8 works but is stuck at 00.00% when encoding. All newer versions crash with this error.

MeGUI crashes when I press keyboard buttons too fast, and VidCoder crashes. Didn't try out other software.

Problem with system, not the software. Have you been keeping up with Windows Update? At least have the system setup for the
important ones ( I personally stay away from the optional ones unless there something that I particularly need ).

Control Panel --> Windows Update --> Check to see if it is setup to receive at least Important Updates. This is something that
should setup when the machine was new (assuming it came with Windows 7) or if it was upgraded from an earlier
    version of Windows (Vista maybe).

Also if the machine was built pre Windows 7 you might want to have the Bios updated to a newer version. Check with manufacturer of your machine or the motherboard manufacturer.

There may be more. Check again after this round of updates. If you haven't had update setup, this may take a while. They come
    in waves.

Hmm, he's kinda stuck at installing .net Framework 4.5. Should I stop the update and manually download it myself or let it continue?

No. Let it continue. I said this may take a while if Windows Update was never setup.

EDIT: A disk cleanup on the C: drive may be in order if a lot of updates are done.

Okay, the updates finished. Should I reinstall Handbrake now or should I do something else first? Thanks for all the help so far anyway, I'm really grateful!

Like I said this may take a while. When done perform a disk clean-up. Check for registry errors (Windows Update can cause these).
Then try installing Handbrake and or VidCoder (If you like Handbrake I think you'll love VidCoder).
