  1. Hi cats,

    from my NLE I have exported my interlace video in 4:2:2 YUY2 uncompressed 1920x1080: this is outputNLE.avi

    I would like generate a MP4 that is playable in pc desktop with, for example, VLC

    Consider that outputNLE.avi is BT.709 colormatrix, and as sayd, is interlaced

    To achieve the MP4 I would try:

    -->deinterlace it ( using avisynth: yadif() )
    -->colormatrix from 709 to 601
    -->encode MP4 as progressive 4:2:2 (using Mainconcept Totalcode or Elecard converter studio)

    is correct my procedure? thanks

  2. Why would you convert to rec.601? Just encode with the original rec.709 and flag it. Just about every player will play it with the correct colors if you do that. And if you must use rec.601 colors be sure to flag them. Most players will default to rec.709 if the video is HD.

    4:2:2 chroma subsampling is a much bigger problem outside of a computer. Few devices can handle it.
