  1. Hi my parents bought some commecrial vcds. I noticed that the quality is the same if not better than my home made svcd. I read on the label and it says vcd compliant 2.0. I made one of those and it sux. I make my svcd with tmpgenc and use highest constant bitrate for svcd. which is about 2500. I convert to svcd from sources like divx and my own video capture.
so please tell me what i did wrong

One problem is your source material. DivX, especially the cr@p you pull off of peer clients is really poor quality... Even if it LOOKS like it's good quality, it is still compressed...highly compressed. And further encoding compressed source makes it even worse.

  3. If u r gonna use the AVI files you download as your source you have to give your encoder as much freedom to work as possible.

Try setting it up for 2 pass VBR instead of a high value constant. I've found that it makes for a much better quality end result. TMPGEnc is a nice program from what I can see of it so far and it seems to take advantage of the extra elbow room you give it with the 2 pass vbr method to really improve on the output. Especially in action scenes.

  4. I also think it is probably just your source. Try making an SVCD from a DVD rip and you will see the difference. Anything you get off the net has been severely compressed to make it easier to download. Nobody is going to download a 10GB DVD full quality rip off the net.
