  1. If you import an SRT file to VLC, should the VLC subtitle options be able to change the size of the subtitles?

That is not working for me.

If they are image subtitles can't you change the size.

Open the mp4 with mediainfo and see what it says under subtitles or extract the subtitle track with mymp4boxgui.

Mediainfo says "1 Text Stream: Timed Text" This is a collection of images?

In what circumstances can VLC manipulate the size of the subtitles? What if you have an SRT file? I tried to add this, and VLC seems to take it, but does not display it.

    Yes. Srt should work.

Are you loading the srt from Subtitle->Add subtitle file? Then you might to choose correct sub(if the video already has subs), under Subtitle->Sub track.

So it is confusing. I add the SRT and that apparently becomes Subtitle Track 2. When I select that track the subtitles are tiny. No amount of resizing the subtitle options makes any change. I tried Large and Larger with no change. I tried to set the absolute font size to 14 and then 28, and no change at all. The font is rendering in italic, and no italic font is selected in Subtitles/OSD advanced options.

Where exactly are you changing the subtitle settings?

Or maybe just use another player. I like Potplayer and Mpchc.

    In latest version of VLC:

    Tools | Preferences | Subtitles/OSD | Font size

Is this the setting that would change the display size of an imported SRT subtitle track? Well, it isn't.

Is this a bug in VLC player?

I just tested it on a mkv with built in subs, change the sub settings, loaded a srt and it works fine.

VLC 2.1.5 32 bit version. VLC 2.2.0 works also.

Maybe post a bug report over at videolan forums.

Are you using the 64bit version maybe?

    Yes I am using 64-bit 2.2.0.

Which forum should I be reporting in? Because I am already posting in the Videolan Forums, under Subtitles, which sounds like the right place to report a Subtitle bug?

I would try the 32bit version and see how it works. The 64bit version is still a bit buggy.
