has anyone had this experience ?

anyway. i ordered something and after viewing the tracking info, i was glad that it was received on time and waiting for me early this morning. when i finally came home from work, 6:30pm, the package was not where it would usually be. i thought it was an oversight, someone saving steps, typing that entry on the website.. that it was delivered "..and left at the door". but thinking about more i thought that can't be the case. anyway. i've never had this problem with amazon and ups and fedex packages. never. so i have no experience how to handle this situation, who to call or write to, etc.. so, after searching around i couldn't find a contact on amazon (i was assuming you have to contact amazon) to write to. but i did find the seller, the distributor and wrote an email and gave them my ups tracking # and additional address details in case it would help. but i am not sure i did the correct thing in order to find my package. the ups tracking website said that it was delivered and left by the door.

my thinking is, if this happened once, then it will happen again now, if i can't get the original package delivered. and now i have doubts about future shopping on amazon.

is there anything else i can do? or is my package truelly gone? and if gone, how do i get my money or the credit added back onto my gift card ?

    thank you.

First rule is that the shipper is responsible, always! Unless he has a signature that you received and accepted it the burden of proof is on his side.

Second thing to check is if the order was from Amazon or a 3rd party marketplace seller. If it is from Amazon and your address was correctly entered on the order you can be certain it is a some kind of mailing error, and thus it's a problem for Amazon not for you. If it is a third party seller the same is likely true but it could be the third party seller tries to commit fraud.

In all cases you should not have to pay for the cost. Call Amazon and in my experience they resolve the issue satisfactory.

What makes sense, but is not legally required, is to check with the neighbors or the post office. I once had something marked as delivered and actually showed up only the next day.

Well I have had experience that the tracking info is plainly wrong.

I had a package 'out for delivery' and 'delivered' except that neither was correct and the package was actually delivered a day or two later.

well, that was my thought too, on both your comments. so i will wait another day then. at least i gave additional info in case it might help, that is, assuming the distributor is aware of the email and does an automatic inquiry as a courtesy to the situation. at least that is what i do at work every day. anyway. thanks for your input.

If UPS (United Parcel Service) delivered it, they have a record. I was told their hand held scanners have GPS and when they 'leave it at the door', they scan it. That gives them an exact location and an exact time of delivery. If it's not there, you need to contact UPS immediately and they will give you a fairly quick answer.
If it was delivered to the wrong address, they would have that record also.

With Amazon, I would check to see how your address is listed. Where I live, the entire subdivision has the same street address (Over 450 homes) and each home has a unique lot number. If they leave off the lot number in the address, I don't get a package. I use PayPal a lot and that mostly eliminates address mistakes as I don't have to type it in each time.

I also should mention that Amazon uses just about any handy shipper in my area. UPS, Post office, FedEx, and several smaller delivery companies.
But Amazon usually sends me an email telling me the name of the shipper.
