I`ve been a stills photographer for most of my adult life. I recently purchased a SJ4000 video cam and after mastering PS video editing have the bug. I need something with a bit more flexibility with a longer focal length etc. I sold all my Canon dslr gear because of age and weight and have been using the fuji xpro 1 as my stills camera but as far as video goes it falls a bit short of the mark. I can`t afford any of the pro type cams but was wondering about the Sony HDR PJ 620 or similar. Do you think i will be disappointed or will it give me the next step up the ladder so to speak.

    Thanks

You would need to test side by side to be sure, my best guess is that the Fuji with a decent lens will give you superior image quality and the sony will give you better ergonomics (less shake, smoother zooming.)

Should have held on to the canon -- sorry to say.

    Thanks for the reply.

The xpro1 is an absolute superb stills camera full stop but video is another matter ( read this dpr page http://www.dpreview.com/reviews/fujifilm-x-pro1/22 )
I had to downgrade, the weight of carrying all that FF gear was getting harder and harder for my old bones and to be honest i have only just gotten the video bug.
I don`t think many cams could be much worse that the fuji and obviously I can`t test side by side without making the purchase.

Just thought someone on here might have used the Sony or similar and could offer some advice. I suppose like most things you get what you pay for although I must say that I`m very impressed with the Iq from the sj4000 so maybe there is a cheap gem out their?

    thanks

  4. For their price and size the sonys are pretty darn good -- especially under favorable light conditions.

But it's going to be a step down in image quality. You're looking at something like the sony nex vg30 to get there. Even the CX900 (which I like a lot) doesn't give as rich an image.
