Playing forced subtitles - Windows Media Player/Media Player Classic

So, I synced up some subs using Subtitle Workshop, saved it as a SSA file, then used MKVmerge to mark it as the "default" "forced" track.

In Windows Media Player - I have the "On if available" option selected, and in Media Player Classic (64bit) - subtitles have been "enabled" and it seems to have picked up the correct subtitle track, however neither is showing any subs at all.

Once upon a time, I recall that this was sufficient, but I have re-installed Windows since then, so I may have some settings may differ from back then?!

I'm using K-lite codec pack BTW, do I need to have any settings set to get this working?

Have you checked how it works with other players like vlc media player(built in decoders)?

But I guess you want to use mpchc?

I use MPC occasionally when Windows Media Player fails to do its job.

Ideally I use WMP, as I like the Auto-Play function along with the playlist option.

But did the subtitle work with VLC?
